Let's put it this way....the city is better equipped to handle the tidal surge. With that said, there are still alot of things that could go wrong. When St Bernard flooded, it was because of a 50 ft tidal surge that was traveling up the MRGO @ 75mph that busted the levees down there. Who knows what could happen if that same scenario plays out.
understood... It's a gamble..... hopefully NOLA anti upped and things will be ok for the forseeable future.

Am I seeing this right? The coast is now under a slight threat for tornadoes too?

You cannot have a basement in Mississippi either. It would be full of water in less than 3 days.
False. I know of numerous houses in the Delta that have basements, a few of them are old antebellum mansions built next to a bayou, one of them actually still has an escape tunnel out of the basement that leads to the bayou from back in the civil war days. Every one I've ever been in was dry too... guess they don't build em like they used to

We've already had some storms and hail this morning. It's apparently going to be off and on today through 7-8 pm, with the greatest chances for tornados/severe storms between 3pm and 6pm (EST).

It's just like every other natural disaster, you never know what you're dealing with until it's over.
This is why tornadoes scare me more than hurricanes. We don't get many tornadoes in FL but at least with a hurricane you have the choice to get out of the way.

Its a convective severe weather map issued by the National Weather Service.

It's the probability of a severe wind event (straight-line or down burst) at any given location.

STFU. Tornado jokes are not funny to folks that deal with them. Tuscaloosa was beaten up badly not too long ago.

I looked at the radar and saw the rain was above and already past Alabama really. Is there more coming?
