First, her net worth is approximately 2 million. Her base salary is a tiny fraction of that.
Second, WHERE ON EARTH is she paying $8,000 in rent? Even if that covered everything (utilities, trash, etc.) and she lived in an incredibly expensive city (like Manhattan), that's a LOT. The average rent in Manhattan is $4,939 per month - while that is a lot of money to drop on rent, that's still 3 grand less than she says she's paying.
Reese plays for the Chicago Sky, so I checked the rent for one of the nicer areas of Chicago, Lincoln Park (at least that's what the internet tells me - I'm not doing a deep dive so if that's an incorrect assumption, let me know).
The average rent in Lincoln Park, Chicago is $1,448 per month for a studio, $2,231 for one bedroom, $3,281 for two bedrooms, and $4,310 for three bedrooms. So even if she had a 3 bedroom apartment, that's nowhere near what she says she's paying.
This is just a weird claim. It's like she went and rented the most expensive place she could find with her rookie bonus and what not, and isn't even considering her endorsement deals in all this.

I don't know — none of this makes sense.
I'm guessing she either has multiple places rented for her and her family/friends, or (hopefully) she is mistaking "mortgage" for "rent."
There's also a chance her financial manager purchased investment property and she doesn't understand what that is.
Either way, I hope she really trusts whoever is doing her books. I personally know NFL guys who made/make magnitudes over what she makes, and at least one doesn't have anything left.
As a side note, the comments on that twitter post are painful. A huge chunk of them talk about how those women deserve to be paid more, right underneath the comment that states the league is set to lose $50m this year.
We've somehow failed at teaching basic economics in this country.
