If anybody needs to man up in this discussion it is BAMA. Their schedule this year is so weak that even if they go undefeated this year they may not qualify for the NCG. If OSU and another quality team goes undefeated this year as well BAMA will not make it.
First off Bama doesn't make the schedules, despite any delusional conspiracy theories to the contrary.
Second of all we played UF 2 years ago, and UF + USCe the year before that, so it's not like we always play the UKs of the east. It's not like we never play the big 3 from the east. As a matter of a fact, if I was a betting man I'd bet that we play either UGA, UF, or USCe next year.
Lastly if Bama goes undefeated this year, we will be in the BCSCG no matter who else goes undefeated. To say other wise is lunacy.

Florida and Louisiana are 3 states apart.
Every other 'rivalry' game in the SEC consists of schools in the same or at most, neighboring states.
Get rid of this rivalry for logic's sake. What was it, 10 or 12 years between LSU's trips to Knoxville one time??

Tennessee and Kentucky don't have the population numbers to ever provide a consistently strong talent base. I'm not knocking those programs, but that's just a fact.
Wrong. Its more of a demographic factor.
Metro Louisville has more people than metro New Orleans, and Tennessee has almost 2 million more people than Louisiana.

Permanent opponents in opposite divisions are fricking stupid. That's what divisions are for. You play them every year. Why do you have to have a permanent opponent from the other division? It makes no sense.
Some college teams have rivalries that have developed over decades. That is one of the unique attributes of the college game. Just because some teams don't have rivalries, it doesn't mean that they don't exist. Now if LSU or any other team doesn't want to be tied to one cross-divisional team, then that is fine with me. Let the teams that want to keep theirs, keep them. And let the teams that don't want them, give them up. But don't try and take away our rivalry that we have a lot of time and emotion invested in.

If the schedules were reversed, bama fans would have the same beefs as LSU fans. It all comes down to trying to take advantage of this window we both have to win championships

No, we wouldn't, because we have a rivalry and understand that tradition and rivalries are what make CFB great.

Why don't Alabama and Tennessee schedule non-conference games with each other during years when a fair SEC schedule doesn't have them? If its that important to you...
Auburn and Georgia too...
Because then we have to play an SEC team, but it wouldn't count toward our conference standings. That's stupid.

OK, without getting into any unnecessary details, you really just made my point. Whether you understand that or not.

So you should be playing them again in 2013. But bama doesn't play florida, Georgia nor USC. It's ridiculous.

We played them in 2011. In an eight game schedule with 14 teams, we won't be playing them for a while. That's why we should go to a nine game schedule. Keep everything like it was before A&M and Mizzou joined, just add one more division game.

If UT was at the top of their game, reeling off SEC east titles, and if UF was battling UK & Vandy for last place, we still would want to play UT every year BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR RIVALS. Trust me, I wish they weren't sucking butt and were giving us epic TSIO games. That is what makes college football fun. When they were beating us every year, I never once wanted to stop playing them, and they don't want to stop playing us now.

If you are accepting the fact that we played UF 2 years ago, then your statement makes absolutely no sense.

I believe you are wrong. UT is #3 in the country right now (above LSU and UF).
The creme always rises to the top - because it's not scared of heights - Rocky Top - BOOM!!!

If you're being even somewhat reasonable, then you'll recognize that it's the schedule that doesn't make any sense.

I can agree with this

For this year. But I guarantee you that Bama will be playing either UGA, UF, or USCe next year. It's not like Bama is making the schedules. We just happened to catch a break with the two bridge schedules.

They had a heavy hand in the two bridge schedules.

Yeah, well... this is the one thing that no one outside of Tuscaloosa will argue against. Bama certainly has caught plenty of breaks lately. It must be pretty nice to be so good and yet so damn lucky at the same time.

This is bs and you know it. Saban submitted a draft schedule but Slive was free to reject it.

Alabama is closer to GA. and FL, than LSU is.
