They over estimate their program and under estimate their conference foes. The TV exposure and money has brought parity to the league. MSU has a 4+ million dollar coach. Now like 9 or 10 of the 14 teams have 100 million dollar athletic budgets.
When Miles had 3 top 5 finishes from 05-07 LSU had a ridiculous talent advantage. Only USCw had comparable talent. Alabama in 07 did not have 1 player drafted in any of the 7 rds. Nutt was one of the best coaches in the West and Croom, Shula and Ogeron were roaming the sidelines. LSU rise to the top was just as much of a by product as the other west schools being down. Only Auburn was a threat back then. Now there are no gimmie games in west. MSU and Ole Miss used to be like Vandy and Kentucky, but now they take their football serious.
