Was an All American defensive end at Cal, played in the NFL from 2001-13.

Held the same position with the Jets and was a DL assistant coach before that with the Dolphins.

ETA: Also finalizing a deal to hire Miami DC Blake Baker as LBs coach

Both great hires.

Blake Baker was the DC at Miami if I’m not mistaken. Weren’t they a pretty good defense?

I keep seeing people say this is such a great hire. Why? He was a great player for a long time. But he’s been a coach for three seasons total. And DL coach is where you usually have a recruiter. It would seem he’s never done that, considering his career.

Manny Diaz decided to take playcalling duties back so I'm guessing no.

Was also the DC at Louisiana Tech. Interesting that our LB coach has much more DC experience than our actual DC.

O is assembling a very inexperienced staff. Guess it makes sense after all of the "retread" complaints.

Will be interesting to see how it works out.

I thought the DC and LBs hires were great. This one just seemed odd.

I'm personally willing to chance it. I want young, eager guys who sleep at the damned office and live off Little Debbie oatmeal cakes and the smell of sweat.

We got a whole lot younger as well.
There are some good pros to that for recruiting and just understanding and getting to know the players better I would assume.

I actually thought O would just handle the DL himself and save the spot for another position but I guess not.

Also thought Lacouture had a good chance to get it.

Maybe he's never recruited but I don't mind sending a coach into a kids living room to say:

I was High School All American
I was a Unanimous College All American
I was a top 10 draft pick
I was a pro-bowler
I played 12 NFL seasons
I've got 80 career sacks

Wanna play for me?

And their Mommas ask how many players have you gotten drafted

I’m sure that goes a long ways. And gets your foot in a lot of doors, but you know as well as I do that recruiting is a lot more than just being a recognizable figure.

No one does this. It’s a ridiculous suggestion.
