False.
A portion of all employees' salaries in the athletic department is funded by the state, however, there is a cap to state funded salaries as defined by law. This is where TAF comes in.
That payroll is dwarfed by the revenue the AD transfers back to the University each year. LSU does as good a job of this as any AD.

Correct, but it doesn't change the fact that a portion of these employee's salaries is paid for with taxpayer money. Orgeron would be the highest paid state employee without the TAF money. The narrative that ALL of their salaries are paid for by TAF is wrong, which is what I was pointing out.

Isn't it usually in the neighborhood of $500k for top programs with the rest coming from "booster/other sources"?

The State of Louisiana no longer releases employee salaries to the public as of a few years ago. I want to say it was closer to $300k when Les was coach. Alleva was a close 2nd.

Athletic programs are expensive. We should concentrate on just football and be terrible at the other major sports like some schools.

Again, for the fricking umpteenth time, the athletics department is privately funded by TAF which runs off of philanthropic donations. Not one red cent of taxpayer money is ever spent on LSU athletics. In fact, TAF runs at such a surplus, they donate millions of dollars each year to the university for academic and infrastructure improvements.
LSU football is the only program in FBS that receives zero state tax dollars and gives money back to the university, which is basically 8 million a year.
The thing that angers me is that the richest person in Louisiana, the New Orleans Saints owner who worth almost 3 BILLION, is getting $400 million over 20 years from STATE TAX PAYERS just to stay in NOLA after her husband extorted that money by threatening to move the team to San Antonio after Hurricane Katrina! Priorities of the corrupt politicians in Louisiana for you when the state is cutting left and right!
