Brandon Taylor (QB of the defense) missed the last half of the season last year.
Craig Loston and Tyrann have become full time starters.
Mo Claiborne has filled the role of PP7 nicely and I would argure that he is a better cover guy than Patrick was.
The defenseive line has a host of new player that start and rotate. LaVar Edwards who started last year, doesn't start this year and we have a TEN man rotation on the DL.
Overall we have many of the same players from last year, but last year they were freshman and sophomores. This year they are sophmores and juniors. Next year, our defense may be better than this year.

Eric Reid might be out Friday with a quad injury, but we get back Loston this week. Also, true freshman Ronald Martin got some playing time at safety last week, so we have that going for us. WE DEEP SON.

Thanks for all of the info. Definitely wish we could get some of those kids.

You're original question was
To answer your original question:
1) More experience. We had true freshman in the backfield getting significant time last year. I know ALL teams are a year more experienced, but keep in mind LSU has 2 of the best defensive players in the country, who are SOPHMORES.
2) Another year in Chavis system. Last year, there were a lot more blown coverages/assignments.
3) Health.
4) Possible even more speed than last year.
quote:and then you go on to parse this specifically for the Ark game.
What made the difference in your defense?

I frickin' hate how young those guys are. It's not fair.
Arkansas gets kinda lucky every now and then with an undervalued offensive player (greg childs, for instance), but i don't think we've ever had someone like matthieu fall into our laps as an undervalued defensive star.

a year of playing time. and i think mo, as far as pure technique, is a little better cover corner than pp7.
sam montgomry makes a big difference too.

Every single player on that field

Why was he on the field?
He started the year starting at FS.

And didn't Montgomery miss most of the year?
Last half of year, but once again the biggest issue we had last year was Hatcher in the secondary. He screwed a lot of things up. Says a lot he went from starting safety to backup safety to backup LB.

My long post was the entire reason for my initial question.

I'm asking a legitimate question that serves 2 purposes. It allows me to learn more about your defense, but also makes you guys admit that injuries play a part in on-field success.
quote:Yes, because it makes no fricking sense.
Is it really that hard to comprehend?

The schedule.
The toughest teams they have faced have all defeated themselves by turning the ball over or missing field goals.

Bennie Logan and Michael Brokers. Both bigger and have solidified the defensive front.

Well then, welcome to the club, in advance.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it sure is nice. Last year we lost PP7, and hasn't hurt the secondary at all. This year we will lose Claiborne, and it may not hurt the secondary at all. If we pull Landon Collins, we may have a starting true freshman in the DBackfield next year also.

You're a dumbass
You don't understand.
If I come on here and post a thread that says, "Arkansas' defense is still a question mark. We've had to deal with tons of in juries."
Do you think anyone, specifically LSU fans, would be willing to concede that point? Of course not.
But if I can get a bunch of you to admit that your team defense would have been better last year if not for injuries, you can't say that the same wouldn't ring true for Arkansas.
I'm a dumbass? You've failed to comprehend any of this. Get topicality off of your radar and focus on content.

Who would deny that?
You can't find an Arkansas defense/LSU Offense thread that doesn't throw out the number of points we surrendered to Bama, A&M, etc, etc. Are you new here? Have you not seen that?

Yes, because it makes no fricking sense.
To special people. It's okay. We're all proud that you figured out a computer.

Stronger/MUCH more depth on the interior DL.
Best speed rush from DE in school history with sick rotation.
More speed at the LB's.
Best cb tandem in college football/ridiculous blend of the run stop and shutdown mixed in with scary good blitz/turnover production.
Safeties have Dominated both in run stop and over the top coverage.
And best of all, teams have to start their drives on the 4 yard line thanks to Brad Wing.

We also forget to mention our offense is a lot more efficient, not nearly as many 3 and outs...a rested defense is a better defense
