RRS always kicks off at 11am local time for obvious reasons.
It's always been a day game, for obvious reasons. But, 11 rather than 2:30 is all about the TV contracts. When they are in the SEC, this game could be played at 2:30, but the City of Dallas really doesn't want this one at night.

You have to go back a whole decade to find an example of what you're talking about. Hardly a "usual" thing.

You don't wanna be in that part of Dallas even at 6:00-6:30 local.

There is a Red River Rivalry documentary where Mack says the Big 12 chose that time to keep the fans from getting too drunk. When the game has been done later, too many drunks lol

He can say whatever he wants about drunks, but it really all has to do with the Big XII TV contract. The 2:30 slot has been regional coverage for the like last 25 years, so, if this was going to be a national game, it had to be 11 a.m. If you go back to pre-Big XII days, they would move the game around just depending on who was televising it (or if it was even being televised).

Red River Rivalry has been at 11 am for years. Biggest game of the year for the conference. Why do you think the are known as the "Big 11am" conference.

Mack also called Kyle Field a snake pit so I'll give him some credit.

I don’t know when the lease for Cotton Bowl Stadium Expires but I guarantee Jerry Jones would want that game at his place

I watch it in hopes of a live meteor strike. I've been disappointed for over 60 years.
