Third down defense.
Defense in the final 2:00 of the 4th quarter.

The biggest knock I have is going into a soft prevent defense at the end of a game and let the opponent drive/score.
When LSU hired Chavis, Tennessee fans laughed and said that they wouldn't miss "third and Chavis". I think LSU had the talent to overcome some of his coaching weaknesses while Tenn did not.
I am not happy to see him leave but this could be a good opportunity to hire a solid defensive coordinator and see what e can do with the talent. The hire could also have the inside track if the head coach position opens up.

Getting pressure on QB. Creating turnovers (save the 2011 season with mathieu). Third downs...like every single one. 2 minute defense. 4th downs. Creative blitzes. Soft zones, typically in 3rd down and 2 minute situations though...
Most all of this is what I have seen he has struggled with, all while having multiple NFL a players on his squad every single year. Put that in A&Ms defense, and you can see why many of us really, in all honesty, are not too upset about new blood running our D, and why we don't think you will see much of an uptick in your defensive rankings.

He is a good coach... Just when it comes to stopping teams at end of games and blitzing.. We never blitz with him

He certainly isn't bad at stopping the aggies, but if you would like to see what he is bad at, checkout the Notre Dame game. So many times over the past few years LSU has lost games on the opponent's final drive.

Actually, I think that the term "3rd and Chavis" was first used when he was at Tennessee.

It was, and that was nothing compared to some of the Vols nicknames for him the last couple of seasons he was there. He is a great DC but not irreplaceable. A&M is just desperate at this point.
