It's about time LSU went looking for the best coaches elsewhere in the SEC. I would say it is inherently beneath the LSU powers-that-be but ..... tit for tat as they say. We lost the most tenured and best defensive coordinator in the SEC along with the best coach ever in college football to our SEC West brethren. I think getting Smart from Ala. would be poetic justice if nothing else.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think Smart is feeling unappreciated these days. Not saying the Tide shouldn't have huge expectations with 10 number 1 recruiting classes in a row, but he must feel enormous pressure when his defense comes up short. Probably just wants a big raise and a bigger pat on the back.

You didn't lose Saban to Bama; he went to the NFL and then he realized he was better suited for the college game and came to Bama.

He definitely upgraded his job by making those moves but your premise that Bama stole him, like TAMU stole your DC and there needs to be a tip for tat with Bama is flawed.

Bottom line is lsu will not get Kirby from Bama unless y'all offer him the head coaching position or some stupidly high contract ($2mil)

The ONLY way Smart goes to LSU is if Alleva tries the never has worked "Head Coach in Waiting" BS with Smart... And frankly, watching the last two to three games of the last two years for Bama, I don't think there is any way they'll do anything with Smart. This signs like what of those Chat forum rumors that took on some sort of magical credibility.

You don't think a 'HC in waiting' offer would get it done? LSU is a top 10 CFB job in the country.

Doesn't Saban basically run the defense at Alabama?

Kirby Smart is the most lavishly paid figurehead in college sports. Saban runs that defense.

Well, that is essentially doing what I said it would take; that and you backing up the Brinks truck with $2mil salary could be enough.

It would be a show of desperation and a "Custer's last stand" type of move by Les and LSU. If it didn't work and the continuation of Bama's dominance over lsu remains then they both will be gone in 3 years. The melt would be an absolute epic thing of beauty for LSU rival fans to watch unfold.

No school is doing the HCIW thing ever again because of the recruiting restrictions that go with it.

Now, a school could say "we promise you'll be the HC when the current HC retires/leaves/gets fired" but no school worth a damn would make that "promise", no coach with any sense would accept that "promise", no agent worth his commission would agree to that "promise", and no fan should want their program to make that "promise".

I have no idea if Kirby would accept the LSU DC job but no HCIW garbage will have any bearing on it.

Given that Alabama is soon to sign its eleventeenth #1 class in a row, I feel like this can't even be disputed anymore.

Nobody even comes close, which makes it all the more frustrating when Bama loses

There is no logical reason that Smart would come to LSU except for more money. Bama would match anything LSU offers IMO.

Not buying this

You're ignoring the part where rednecks in Bama eat up the recruiting services, ultimately inflating the value of recruits. Actually, the entire SEC suffers from this a little bit.

I don't know why it would be difficult for anyone to understand why he would want to prove himself away from Saban.
