re: Louisville to hire Kenny Payne (Pearl, Muss, Oats mentioned when the job came open)

quote:As someone who lives in the Louisville, it was a really weird search to follow. They hired a search firm to find candidates since they only have an interim president and interim AD. Not to mention they fired Mack so early in the season. So nothing has really gotten out about who they've interviewed or who they've tried to as far as I know, just fan input and guessing. But along the way, there were rumblings from Pearl to Muss to Cronin to KP. IMO they were gonna look at Pearl until Auburn locked him up, Muss and Cronin were just wishes, and Kenny Payne was the most likely guy the entire time.
Were Pearl, Oats, and Muss actual candidates, or was it just wishful thinking from rival fanbases on here to get them out of the league?

They were never candidates. Payne was our target all along. Bruce Pearl, contrary to whatever was reporter, was never contacted by Louisville.
With no AD and no President, I doubt Louisville could have gotten a big name had they went after one

Cardinal forum talk apparently. Fans want list.
Their 247 mod shot Muss down pretty quick because he said they couldn’t afford him even if he was interested.

Great hire for UL. Somebody in the SEC should get Mack.

Xavier fired their HC and he’s apparently headed back there.
There was a lot of internal stuff with Mack that suggests he lost the whole team and part of the staff with some of his shenanigans.

Who is he? Seems an odd hire for a program as big as them.

I wouldve expected them to hire an established coach. But Duke and UNC have made similar hires.

With the NCAA stuff going on, along with an interim AD and President I am not sure we could have gotten the big name. I am fine with Payne though. Elite recruiter with a number of big time connections.

That does make sense. Hope he works out for you. What are you expecting as far as the NCAA rules committee?
