Would you rather us not play any small schools(North Texas, Tulane, ULM, etc) and just start to schedule Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, and so on each year so that if in the ungodly event you manage to go undefeated(which you never will) you can be a title team?
Obviously not, but I do like playing at least 1 major OOC team each year. I mean, if you are going to use that strawman argument, then why wouldn't you want to leave the SEC for the BE where we can make a schedule that will guarantee us to go undefeated every year and have a great shot at the title. I like to watch LSU play the best teams in the country. It would suck to have missed an opportunity to watch a game like the UF/LSU match-up in '07.

I see where you are coming from. I don't want a Boise state schedule where you pretty much have your main game first game of the season then cupcakes the rest of the way. I would appreciate a full rotational system instead of set opponents where we would still play Florida some years just not every year. With the system we have in place even if we didn't play Florida during the regular season we would still get them in the championship game.

It is, but the players are not going to lose focus and think about anything else. Playing in the middle of the schedule can be a trap game.

I am not saying that I don't want to ever play UF. What I am saying is that it would be nice to not have to play them every year. If we had a three team rotation of say UF, UGA, USC then that would be a lot better to me.

Based purely on the #s ($$), these would be the 4 adds (16 team "Super Conferences" are where we are likely headed):
(with state rank, population, key city TV market rank and # of households):
Missouri (#18 6.0MM) - KC #32 941K & StL #21 1.3MM
North Carolina (#10 9.6MM)- Charlotte #24 1.15MM & Raleigh/Durham #26 1.11MM
Texas A&M (#2 25.1MM) - DFW #5 2.54MM, Hou #10 2.12MM & SA #37 830K
Virginia or VA Tech (#12 8.0MM) - DC #9 2.34MM
Adding Missouri, UNC, TX A&M, & UVA or VaTech increases the SEC footprint population base 83% (or 48.6MM) from the current 58.9MM to 107.5MM, while staying contiguous.
These are all decent basketball, baseball and academic adds too.

FWIW I LOVE playing LSU every single year.
And would love it if TAMU joined the SEC.

The only thing I don't like about playing Florida is that in years we play Florida on the road we play Alabama at home and vice versa. That makes it hard to go undefeated and get into the title hunt.

The way I look at it is, if UF is the best of the east and we are the best of the west, we are gonna have to play them no matter what. If you substitute UF for Vandy on this year's schedule it would totally suck balls for LSU fans.

I, for one, would rather play only BCS AQ conference teams instead of directional U four times per year. And I also don't think it would make much difference in the number of MNC's LSU wins in the future, either, but it sure would make for more exciting football EVERY DAMN YEAR!!
I say UF is the perfect "permanent" east division foe - it is no harder on us than it is on them.
Even if your goal is MNC every year, please tell me which west team has won more of those than LSU since we started playing UF each year - yeah, that's what I thought.

Seventh, TV exposure? Have you been to College Station? Population without A&M students, staff and support businesses is 150 (those are at the Bush Library).
That is ignorant. A&M is represented all over the state, especially in Houston and DFW. Those are huge markets.
The dominat player in State of Texas media is UT, not A&M. The cache of A&M in the SEC would carry some weight in Houston and DFW, no arguement. But that would be the SEC as the increased draw, not A&M. I don't think I said that really well and I do agree the College Station comment was a bit of a cheap shot at A&M, but they aren't bringing media markets. You could probably put the SEC on TV in Houston and DFW without A&M and do just about as well.

I think you are discounting how many eyeballs would be on A&M vs. Alabama instead of UT vs. Baylor/Kansas/Okie St., etc. There was a brief period in time where A&M ruled the state of Texas, and it can happen again. The SEC gives them the platform to make it happen.
