If qbs rarely improved from being a freshman to subsequent years, you would have a great point. Problem is, that isn’t how things often proceed.

Of course the point of this exercise is over your head.
It is simply used too illustrate pace he was on over the course of a full season, as there is no way someone like you can figure that out by yourself. It is not predicting future numbers.
