I think State is in line for the biggest drop off. No way they can replace that production from last years team. Simmons at times looked like the best dlineman in college football.

State's DL last year was crazy good. Just filthy.

They were the most disruptive DL in the country IMHO, including Clemson.

I agree. I'm not trying to troll State fans when I say this, but I'd be really down about last year if I were them. If it weren't for an offense that absolutely imploded for a bit, they'd have been competing for a new year's day bowl. Their defense was really, really good.

Agree - if their offense (mainly QB) had been just average that team probably wins 10 or 11 games.

They were the best defense, front to back, that I saw all year last year live. And we played some good ones.

I feel pretty good about the thicc boys rotation. Returning a lot of size and experience.

DE T.J. Carter (6-foot-4, 289 pounds, Sr.) 4th on the team in TFL last year
NG Quinton Bohanna (6-foot-4, 361 pounds, Jr.)
DE Calvin Taylor Jr. (6-foot-9, 310 pounds, Sr.)

DT Phil Hoskins (6-foot-5, 306 pounds, Sr.)
NG Marquan McCall (6-foot-3, 376 pounds, So.)
DE Josh Paschal (6-foot-3, 284 pounds, Soph.) Missed most of last season with cancer. Will likely take the starting spot. Had 3.5 sacks as a freshman.
DT Kordell Looney (6-foot-3, 297 pounds, Jr.)

Apparently has turned heads in spring, but it was spring so we'll see.

DE Marlon Davidson

I feel like he has been around for 10 years. He is entering Marquise Maze territory.

LSU will be solid at DLine. We have 2 knowns on the line in Fehoko and Lawrence. Chaisson coming off an ACL tear, but he is the real deal when healthy. Noseguard is the big question for us. They are unproven, but potential is there. I'll name them and grade them

DE: Rashard Lawrence (A-) - Stud. NFL guy. Probably a 2nd/3rd round guy. Some plays he just blows into the backfield, but he can seem tired at times. You can make him a non-factor by running sideline to sideline like Bama does.

DE: Breiden Fehoko (B-) - He is a quality SEC DLinemen. He is very similar to Christian Lacouture or Davon Godchaux IMO. He rarely is pushed backwards off the line. He just doesn't create much of a push himself. Almost no pass rush ability, but he will make some crucial stops at the line.

DT: Tyler Shelvin / Apu Ika (C) - Shelvin has real talent, but has been a bit of an underachiever. Constantly overweight, but looks like he has taken significant strides at the end of last year and this year. Ika is a true freshmen. I normally disregard them, but he was dominant at times in the spring game. Last performance by a true freshman in a spring game that got me excited was Grant Delpit. The talent is there, but he is overweight. If he can drop 20 more pounds before the season, the guy can be a force.

OLB/Pass Rusher: K'Lavon Chaisson (A+ but ??) - Absolute beast. Potential 1st round pass rusher if he hasn't lost a step. Coming off an ACL tear though. Hopefully he is the same guy. Without him, we have to get creative to produce a pass rush. Having him changes the entire defensive scheme.

I was just thinking to myself... Pair States Defense last year with the Dak Prescott offense... they may be College Football Champions.

Their defense in 2014 was legit too though.

They had Chris Jones, Benadrick McKinny, Preston Smith. Those are good NFL guys

You jest but last year we had the thiccest boys in the country. Last season was a massive improvement for our defense against backs not named Swift. I imagine it also helped Josh Allen go off. Its nice to see we're not starting a bunch of underclassmen.. something Kentucky hasn't always been able to accomplish in the past.
