I think they were talking about instead of having to win a certain amount of games to qualify that mostly everyone would get to go to a bowl as a reward for getting through the season.

Assuming all the bowls remain, I'm sure several may cancel it for this season.

In order to fill all the slots might as well let everyone play even if it is 0-10 Vandy vs the last place team in Big 12 or ACC. You will likely have a lot of players and teams opt out as well if they don't want to have to deal with it if COVID is still a big concern.

Some of the bowls with traditional Pac 12 or Big 10 tie ins might reschedule for spring depending on what they decide to do.

The three legged chair that is the bowl system consists of: (1) host cities travel industry wanting to fill hotels; (2) television broadcaster's desire for cheap live programming; (3) schools desire to use bowl trip as a reward for players and staff.

The first and third legs are doubtful this year, so the only thing driving bowls will be TV money. We will have as many bowls as ESPN wants to pay for, but there's no way, for example, the SEC is going to agree to have a team forced to buy 8,000 tickets for the Music City Bowl when travel is still limited, and seating is socially distanced, nor are they going to agree to send the band, spirit squads, and half the AD staff for a four day hotel stay in Nashville.

The CFP bowls will be played because that's where the money is. Beyond that, I can't see how the money supports playing the minor bowl games. Things will have to get a lot closer to normal for these games to make any sense.

Id bet outside of the playoffs and title games no other bowls are played. Bowls are all about tourism and with 25% stadium capacity there won't be a lot of interest in traveling to Shreveport or Jacksonville or Tampa for a long weekend when bars and restaurants are still limited or maybe even shut down. Parades and team events etc would be a bad idea and a bad look so that ain't happening....I would be surprised if there were many bowls outside of the playoff games which will make money from TV....

Well, yes... they are planning at this time to hold the lower tiered bowls as well. Spoke to a rep last week and they are on. But, awaiting the latest guidelines concerning numbers, etc as the season progresses.

2 games will absolutely get you in a bowl game, 1 might. The SEC could have up to 12 appearances without taking on another bowl or two that other conferences gave up by not playing this season.
