Nice thread, lots of good information in the OP.
Let me help. Joker drove a program that was making progress directly in the the ground in his 3 years.
Recruiting fell off and so did fan excitement.
Mark Stoops was hired in December for his first head coaching job. He has a good family pedigree, and was a defensive coach, which I felt UK needed.
He's implementing a new system, with a very young team, and is recruiting better than UK ever has.
He needs time, but UK will become competitive again in the SEC East. Brought in some good SEC caliber players this year, and have even more coming next year. The future looks bright for UK football.

What happened to Phillips? He was supposedly a good recruiter when he was Brooks' OC, and was a decent OC in those years as well. I was surprised to see both aspects fade when he became the HC. Was the responsibilities too overwhelming for him??

I think he wasn't ready. He made almost a complete staff overhaul and it didn't work. Also, he was a better recruiter as a OC than a HC.
Talent was starting to wane when Brooks retired, and Joker wasn't able to get it going at all on the recruiting trail. He didn't seem to chase any 3 * and up kids, didn't think he had a shot with them.
Nice guy, not HC material at the time.

Well you guys kept Isaiah Crowell under 100 yards rushing last week!

Meh, their class is ranked 15th at the moment and that's due to volume. They have 24 commits, whereas some of the teams closely trailing them only have 15 or so.
