That would result in a divided fanbase IMO. But enough UT fans want this win desperately enough that they're willing to forgive Butch of past (maybe future) blunders if he wins this week. I don't think he's a good coach regardless of this week's outcome, but probably a win over UF would be a "get out of jail free card" for him at least for this year. Still would need to show continued improvement from 9-3 in 2017 though.

You and Josh SEVERELY overestimate how much any of us care about UF. I mean yeah, it's a big game, but we have 3 more of those immediately following.

2017 will be a rebuilding year for the Vols. Tennessee won't be nearly as good next year based on personnel alone. I think Butch has to beat Florida and at LEAST make an SECCG appearance this year. If Tennessee flames out and finishes 8-4 or even 9-3, Jones is a dead man walking going into 2017.

Nope. Not with me anyway. The east is the weaker division and Butch has always pointed to 2016 as the year. 1-3 in any shape or form most likely leaves the Vols out of the east race. He must win the division in my mind.

If UT loses the next 3 after Florida then Florida probably wins the SEC east regardless.

Remember 1998? Peyton Manning goes pro - rebuilding year, right? We won the first BCS title with Tee Martin. A similar thing could happen next year. Except for the departing backfield and a couple of defensive players (Sutton's already gone), everyone will be a year older and more experienced. And we have skill players who can step up as Tee did.

I actually think UT will be better next year with Jarrett guarantano as the qb. They have plenty of offensive skill and I just think dobbs limits what they can do.
Butch is still a mediocre coach and hiring Mike Debord was a particularly inept move but on qb talent alone I think the vols will be more dangerous next year.
