More that he regretted leaving college to coach the pros.

I also read articles where he stated he regretted leaving Michigan State to coach at LSU.

And when I thought you corndogs could not get any dumber you admit you chose Les Miles over Saban.

It wasn’t really a matter of choosing Miles over Saban, Miles was the coach. You don’t think it would’ve been bizarre firing a coach in his second year 11-2, 11-2? Not to mention whatever buyout was.

And of course LSU would go on to win another National Championship the following year, something Aggy hasn’t done since WWII.

Well thats just common sense. As it is that Saban wouldnt ask for the job back he knows someone else already has. Saban is anything but a moron and youd have to be a moron to think you can just make a phone call and get someones job who has a contract.

Here’s a link to Monte Burns, the author of the book “Saban: The Making of a Coach”, saying that during the research for the book he was told by an LSU Trustee that while Saban was with the Dolphins Jimmy Sexton called LSU to see if Saban could get his job back.

LINK

An LSU trustee told me that while Saban was at the Dolphins, Jimmy Sexton called to see if he could get his LSU job back. They loved it there.

The Athletic Director for LSU at the time was Skip Bertman. Skip told close friends the same thing back when it happened. I heard it from one his close friends at that time.

It’s all hearsay of course. No way to “prove it” unless someone has a recording of the conversation.

I have NEVER heard any LSU fan compare Miles favorably to Saban. That’s delusional. Granted LSU has as many delusional fans as Bama, but as an LSU fan in my 37th year of season tickets, I have never heard any LSU fan say Miles was better or as good a coach as Saban. LSU fans know that WHEN Saban decided to coach a NFL TEAM , we got screwed & when he decided to return to college ball, we got screwed. BUT, we’ve won Nattys. & done pretty well &. We’ve made changes to keep things going. It’s all good!

That's closer than anyone's gotten so far. I still don't buy it though. Sounds like a lot of attempted face saving by wannabe influencers down there. Why would Saban ever think L2U would just fire Miles and hand him his old job back? It makes no sense.

It's just a whole lot of people trying to make themselves feel better about the past few coaches that came after Saban. "He wanted to come back here, see we're important."

I think it may have just been a courtesy thing, in my opinion. I’m sure he knew, exactly what you said, LSU was not going to fire Miles at the time. So he made a courtesy call to basically let LSU know, I’m taking the Bama job unless you want to hire be back. He had only been gone 2 years at that point so he still had good relationships with everyone there. He at least offered, even though he knew it could never happen. I actually think it’s a classy move on Saban’s part. As much hate as some LSU fans have toward Saban, this would actually hurt the narrative that he’s just a heartless a-hole.

This is all speculation on my part though.

You might have a point there. And that would make a lot more sense. Of course that's not how the typical trolls present it here of course.

"Lol Saban called begging for his job back!11"

Which one? What will become of you Alabama fans when Saban heads to the inevitable pastures? All the money in the world won’t replace him.

Saban NEVER approached L2U about getting his old job back. If someone can post actual proof, I will happily eat my crow and changey stance on it. Surely this won't be hard to do right?

You’re winning with an LSU coach, just accept it and move on, it’s okay.

He's been at Bama 3x longer than when he dumped you, but sure if that makes you feel better.

BK is here to slay the dragon. Bama will have more talent than anyone, but BK will be a better coach these next 5 years.
