No doubt Saban made LSU into a powerhouse, but DiNardo began the upward trend for the Tigers and left some pretty good talent here for Saban. Not great, but good talent
You're correct. Dinardo started the turn around. He is the one that began locking down in state talent. Problem is he let his success go to his head. He had BR in the palm of his hand....then had 2 down seasons. Saban came in with talent to work with but Saban came in and demanded new buildings for academics and fb operations, weight room, training room etc. All tools that help LSU recruit today.

quote:So you are saying that Saban would have won two national championships if he would have gone to schools like South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State Arkansas or maybe even Georgia? I am more impressed with what Spurrior has done at South Carolina than what Saban has done at Bama. Now before you Gumps get your panties in a wad I have gone on records saying SABAN IS A GREAT COACH.
By that logic one could argue Bear Bryant himself arrived in an ideal situation.

Last I checked the state of Alabama has two Div I football powerhouses, who are also rivals that compete for recruits every year. Who does LSU compete against for recruits, Nicholls State?

Hell, I remember stupid Coonasses on this board making claims that Saban would never reach the same levels of success that he had at LSU at Alabama, simply because he couldn't recruit as well.
Link?

LSU's 1997 team was SEC Champion calibur and would have won it with the right coach.

GOD forbid the unfortunate soul that has to replace Saban in a few years at Bama.
What does this even mean? I don't think "GOD forbid" means what you think it means.

Agree or disagree?
I don't recall ever saying anything remotely close to how Saban would be winning two NC's at those other schools.
Besides, this question is a hypothet that belies my original point. Although, if I had to answer: I think that Saban would do as well, perhaps better than Petrino, Mullen and Spurrier have, who knows? On the other hand, I have zero doubt Saban would be doing much better with the talent at LSU than old Sling Blade has. After that debacle of a coaching job last week, I'd venture to say most of the rational members of your fanbase would agree.
Turning your question around; how do you think Les would do at Arkansas, State or USC? Could he coach those teams as well as the current coaches are doing in those programs? Or are Les' successes based on being the coach of a great program with little competition in it's recruiting base? A program that was handed over to him on cruise control? You tell me.

quote:Why yes it is hypothetical. Would he have the same success? As in 2 national championships? This a thread about Saban not Miles. so why do you feel the need to insult Miles?

I would say Les would have similar success at those schools that he is having at LSU. It would maybe would take a little longer though. Miles did inherit a great situation and he was able to maintain the momentum. Not all coaches can do that.

Saban. He could quit and go coach somebody like the Dolphins for a couple of years, quit and coach a SEC West team not named Auburn or LSU, and I would not be pissed one bit!

WTF gives a crap. Saban has been gone from Baton Rouge since fricking 2004.
LSU was #12 all time in victories and #9 in bowl games """"""""""""" B E F O R E """""""""""""

LSU was 12th in WINNING PERCENTAGE and 14th in number of wins. My mistake...
