Alabama should play Alabama A&M there on a Tuesday night. Then maybe the rest of us will consider.

Just not practical for the whole tournament. Fun idea, but it doesn't have the parking or seating. I will say Mayor Woodfin takes crime 100x more seriously than those two idiots in Baton Rouge and New Orleans do.

Well if the City of B’ham would actually do a little thinking and fix things like parking and make it where you could host RV’s there they might could get things like the SEC tournament or considering most folk in the area is Braves fans they might could get the Braves to come play a series or two a year in Rickwood.

The Barons play an annual Rickwood Classic there, throwback uniforms and all that.

UAB just had a "Rickwood College Classic" there a couple weeks ago vs Birmingham Southern, but I have no idea if that's new or not

I knew UAB had a game there not long ago but I did not know the Barons still played the Rickwood Classic.

I used to go to Barons games back when they played there. Cool place but I'm not sure the facilities could hold up to the numbers it would see over the week of the SEC

I went to a Barons game there when I was a kid back in the 80’s sometime. Hell seems like a lifetime ago now. I feel about as old as that park lol.

Idk man, I don't see any level of facelift being enough to convince the Braves to sacrifice any home games at their state of the art 41k stadium in order to play in a 115 yr old stadium that only seats 10k in another state. Let alone for an entire series, or a couple of series a year.

And think about how high the demand for tickets would be if the Braves decided to play a game in Birmingham, they would sell out a 50k stadium here, it would be a waste to have them play in front of only 10k

Depends on parking, facilities, access. I’m a purist at heart. I hate Yankee stadium was torn down but a lot goes into selecting venues.

Are those two fields close to each other? Is there anywhere with two fields close to each other? It will be a lot harder to play with 14-16 teams. Perhaps they will just keep it at 12, and 4 will miss the cut.

Makes no difference to me.

If it were up to me, I’d play it like a regional spread out over two weekends.

9 baseball series instead of 10
(3-6 format like football)

Regional Play all 16 teams
(top 4 teams host)
all teams guaranteed 3 games

8 Team Tournament
Top 2 from Regionals Advance
(single elimination tournament)

All teams stay rested.
All teams given a chance for the automatic spot.

The seating issue I don’t think would be a problem. They could bring in temporary seating. If they can turn a corn field that is a movie set into a working ballpark I’m sure something could be done with Rickwood.

You do know Rickwood Field only holds 10,000? The only thing that could happen with a MLB team (within reason) would be for the White Sox to play an exhibition game vs the Barons since the Barons are a Chicago farm club.

Like I said in my above post. They took a cornfield that was a movie set and built a working ballpark. Im sure some very very smart people could come up with something to increase the seating in Rickwood. The biggest problem would be parking and camping.

Rickwood is a beautiful field when it is groomed. The stands are old but it’s still a solid stadium. The players locker rooms were refurbished a while back. I played senior league baseball there and it was a blast. We played on Sunday afternoons and Wednesdays. And, no lie, you could hear gunshots in the area on occasion during our games.

You need a park with modern facilities, locker rooms, etc. I’m not sure if Rickwood has that. You also need a place with enough parking.

Enough rest room capacity. Adequate concession stands. Adequate technology in the press box. Etc, etc, etc.

And there's no parking, other than the lot in front of what used to be the old GES department store back in the day.
