Good coach. Has been pretty fortunate in his career at LSU.

Can't realy argue with 4 11 win seasons.

Just can't seem to get over that hump to elite status, tallying 2 losses minimum in all of his best seasons.

I think he is a great recruiter and motivater but I don't trust his X's and O's completely.

I think he's doing well taking advantage of LSU's recruiting base. He may be a great motivator for bigger games, but it's hard to say he's great for all games. LSU lets way too many crappy teams play them close to say that. He has done well against the better teams, so you have to give him that. Still, I wouldn't want him to try to build my program back up. I wouldn't think he would have done too well at Michigan.

Although, in his defense, in those 11 win seasons he has lost to some decent teams.

2005 Georgia
2006 Florida and Auburn
2010 Auburn and Arkansas

In the 4 seasons where he has won 11 games and lost 2, 3 of the losses were to the eventual SEC champion, 2 of them to national champions, and 5 teams won 10+ games.

Maybe Les is a great coach, and the only reason we don't know it yet is because there are so many other great coaches in the conference right now.

Hard to believe he's only 21 wins away from Bernie Moore for No. 2 all-time at LSU.

Yes, but not with enough consistency in any one year to do more than claim 1 SEC title in his 6 year tenure.

Les Miles is a better coach then what he gets credit for. He found a way to win 11 games with a horrible offensive coordinator, a bad OC can ruin the career of many good head coaches. Gotta give Les props for 2010.

Meyer had maybe the most succesful 6 year run in Florida history... and only won 2 SEC titles

Saban has been tremendous at Alabama since he arrived... and has only 1 SEC title in four years

Urban only has one more and he had one of the best college Qbs in the history of the game.

Saban has 3 SEC titles in 9 years in the conference.
Richt has 2 SEC titles in 10 years - and most consider him an average coach.
Meyer had 2 SEC titles in 6.

It's a tough conference. He needs to win the conference again to be considered an elite coach.

As it stands, he is a good coach.

What else do you want?

wasn't debating the Miles ranking. Just pointing out the standard you used is at least inconsistently applied

and disagree with richt being an average coach btw. What he did in the first half of his tenure at UGA was pretty special... lately obviously not so much

I believe he is a great recruiter but, by far the worst coach in the SEC.LSU just has so much talent even he can't mess it up.Most of those "GUTSY" calls are boneheaded decisions but because LSU,just out athletes most teams he looks like a genius. His team underachieves every yr.His NC team had 2 losses and that team was loooaded with talent. His good record is the result of having outstanding players not because of good coaching. If you think he is a great coach, then tell me 1 player he developed. That came to LSU unheralded out of high school and he turned into all -american.LSU is always extremely talented, but they play reckless, undisciplined football and that's why they are always a really good team but not near as dominant as they would be with a good coach.jmo btw

you're dumb. Who coaches that talent? Those kids weren't going to come out of high school and win 60+ games by just showing up on Saturdays with no practices or scrimmages. Moron

This is why i hate it when people start a thread like this on the SEC Rant. It brings out the flamers that have no clue what they're talking about.

But LSU is the only university in the entire country that attracts talent that does. In fact, Miles' coaching makes them worse, LSU would be better off without a head coach.

No shite..right? These idiots talk like LSU is the New England Patriots of college football and the only reason we don't win every game by 20 pts and haven't won the last 6 NCs is because of Miles.

So you're saying Les has never had a good coaching day? He's just ALWAYS been lucky

Les has about beat the shat out of every coach that he had time to prepare for.... like season openers and bowl games. Except for the PSU debacle that I wont use "the field" as an excuse for (but we all know he wins that game on a decent turf)

Record on Opening Day 6-0 Ave Score 38 to 16
Record in Bowl Games 5-1 Ave Score 36 to 15

Cant do much better than that.

In fact, find a coach that has and post it.

Who are all the opponents? On the surface, it seems like a pretty misleading way to approach it.

What does beating MSU have to do with anything?Lsu is way more talented.Tell me this then genius. When has LSU been a 7pt underdog and won the game since Miles has taken over.Call me a flamer or stupid whatever but Vegas they don't play favorites.Lsu beats the teams they should beat and has close calls against teams that shouldn't even be on the same field.I'M not flaming btw,I hope Miles is LSU'S coach until he retires. This is just my opinion.
