Which Les has a pretty good track record of doing.

That's debatable, but I don't really care.

Expectations aren't really a coaches problem.

That is a bit naive.

Les has been lucky on some days and a goat on others.
Fixed.

In all honesty, if you read my first post, I acknowledged that it was my opinion that he was more lucky than good, but it was hard to argue with his record.

Not really.

A coach can't control the high/low expectations put on his team. Use this upcoming year as an example. We'll be ranked in the top 5 and a favorite to win it all but why? We return the same QB that couldn't get it done the past 3 years.

So you're saying Les has never had a good coaching day? He's just ALWAYS been lucky?

This. I feel like we could lose 3 games with the schedule and QB we have. If we have a disapointing season Les could be on the hot seat with these expectations we have and the perception of Les that people already have

Gives me heartburn sometimes, but he's a good and lucky coach.

I didn't say a coach could control it (although they do try to manage it). I just said it was naive to think expectations aren't the coach's problem. Also, a coach does partially control whether his team meets or exceeds expectations, so it is still one way to measure a coach's ability, which was the point.

Clearly that is what I said.

Gonna have to go with an old Lombardi quote to describe Les

"Luck is where preparation meets opportunity."

His team are too consistently good for me to consider him lucky. And seriously every chance they take and convert, it means that they've prepared well enough to execute.

The first couple of seasons I really though he was lucky, but to be as consistent as he has, it can't be luck.

I think he's a really good coach. His teams are guilty of playing to their level of competition at times, but that is normal for a lot of teams.

He could only win with Saban's players. And you can really only judge a coach by comparing him to the jizzinyourpantsness that is Nick Saban.

By this he falls short of being a good coach, so I'll go with lucky that he came behind Nicky and could milk a NC from the guys he put in place for Les.

I hate it when LSU fans start shite like this on this board. You're basically giving everyone free reign to flame away

I tend to agree with this. But, luck tends to even out over time and Miles just comtinues to win. And manages to do so with terrible QB play.

I am beginning to think he may be a little better coach than we give him credit for. I know it can be hard though with some of the strange things he does.

Another reason I think he may actually be a bit underrated as a coach: He was the one who began to turn Okie State around and won some big games with far less talent than some of the opposing coaches.

by that rational Saban is the worst coach in the league because he only has one NC at Bama. He is expected to win it every year.
