I'm sure most of you have seen this, but a NYT article is comparing contact sports to smoking or asbestos. Due to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), which is the result of repeated cellular trauma that eventually forms irreversible brain damage. Basically this makes the case for football, boxing, etc... to not exist for minors. Which would inevitably lead to the sports demise as a whole.

Professional/college football won't exist in 40 years.

Not sure about 18 year olds, but I do question kids under 10 banging their heads around that much at an early age.

I think CFB and the NFL need to switch to two hand touch

For sure. And the thing here isn't just that it's happening while their brain is still developing, because that happens until about 25, but the question of when should a person be able to willingly subject themselves to permanent harm.

It wouldn't surprise me if highschool ball is gone in 5-10. And at that point, nobody is going to fill these stadiums to watch completely raw talent.

A really forward thinking program would dump all that football money into soccer and baseball soon.

I love football but I would prefer my son not play. (He's four now so it hasn't really come up yet) Hypocritical? I guess, but I don't really care.

Get him into flag-football until high school.

I don't know about this, while yes concussions and injuries still happen we've made a ton of strides hell the new revo speed flex are supposed to really help prevent concussions.

It's just PR. When you are moving really fast and then stop suddenly, your brain is going to rattle around in your skull. That is unavoidable. There's no magical helmet that can fix football's problems. It's about deceleration, not actual contact (although that's bad too).

Maybe. It depends on how big/good he is and how much he pushes for it. I'd rather him play other things. Plenty of other options to get the valuable experience of playing sports - baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, soccer, track, etc.

The upshot of this is that America is going to start winning every World Cup, and the MLS is going to become the greatest soccer league in the world.

Europe mad.

I don't think it will go extinct but i can see it being less of a brand it is now. I can really see NBA basketball taking over football in the next 40 years. NFL has gotten too greedy and will pay the price while NBA is getting more and more popular each year.

This is pretty serious stuff man. This isn't some shite where people are being babies and trying to prevent injuries. I think chop block calls are bullshite, roughing the kicker, etc... But it's becoming apparent that it's legitimately causing brain damage over time.

agree

the same progressive globalist democrat and republicans that want to import terrorists into the US will come to conclusion that "football is bad for you" and thus will pass laws to ban it.

ikr.. this is who we have "governing" us.
