The thread was about the SEC in general not about everyone's certain offense.

I think you can't answer the question without realizing every team's offense is different.

I don't think you can say guard is the least important due to all the dominant SEC D-Lineman.

as opposed to any other position the SEC doesn't dominate in?

You would think FB, then you think of Patrick Dimarco vs. Alabama - can be a damned fine convenience.

agreed. I'm a big fan of Dimarco.

Well, the OP did exclude any special teams position. Then again, the OP is Rebman601, so personal punt protector it is.

I don't think it is right to exclude ST from the discussion, as ST is one of the most important units on the team. They decide starting field position for the drive and often times provide points essential to the outcome of the game. Personal Punt Protector, however, is a stupid, stupid position. frick Joe T III, but God Bless his dad

I agree. It wasn't my stipulation. One of the best examples of the importance of good special teams is that Florida team that gave up 7 punt return yards in an entire season.

Least important position in sec football? People always talk about qb being one of the more important positions, but what is the least important position besides any special teams position? Guard maybe?

What are you talking about? We still have all those west division championship rings from Nutt. =)

We also have that god awful boot trophy, but that doesn't mean all that much.

My guess is groundskeeper at Tiger Stadium, unless they just go ahead and count that in as one of Les's job functions...

Free Safety. Because no matter how good you are, the talent and speed of SEC offensive skill players will still make you look silly.

It's certainly none of the positions in the trenches. Fullback IMO, and this thread is dumb.

This is actually one of the better thread ideas I have seen this offseason. In Alabama's system I would go with the TE on offense and the free safety on defense.

i dont agree with it, but ive heard alot of people say wide receiver

When we were recruiting the Springdale 5 or 4 or whatever the hell it was I was having a talk with a local highschool coach about the whole thing. This was at the point before Gus when it looked like Damian Williams was going to USC. I told him that I thought DW was the must get out of all of them and his response was that wr's were a dime a dozen and you could teach any idiot to run and catch. I didn't and still don't agree. For my money it might actually be qb. There's been some national championships won with some middle of the road qb's that had excellent talent around them on offense and defense. FB probably seems like the most logical answer but not in BP's system. Stumon was a huge part of out sucess and BP used a schollie on an unknown juco lb b/c he said he'd been looking for someone like Kiero for three years to play fb. Doesn't sound unimportant to me.
