Butch does everything right 353 days out of the year, but I'm not sold on his ability to coach in-game. He has built a solid foundation of talent, and we have an SEC schedule that is very manageable so we could still win 5, possibly even 6 SEC games. Beating Florida (even if they're not that good) would both keep the team on track to meet their goals, and buy him a LOT of love from the fanbase. Lose, and we fall behind schedule for wins (we expected to split OU and UF) and grumblings begin to arise.

Neither of them were/are game day coaches. The difference is Ron Zook is actually respected by the Coach fraternity (ie. he is the Special Teams coach for the GB Packers) while Butch is just seen as a joke

Kind of like you on this board and Hugh Freeze when he talks about going to a "NY6 bowl game".

Can we get a definition on NY6?

We still call it the Peach Bowl.

The biggest issue I've noticed is that Lyle has no clue how keep the momentum of the game going. The only times he is ever aggressive is when we are heavy underdogs or in a situation where there's no other alternative (2014 4th quarter UT vs SCe for example).

It's like he loses his fricking mind when we are leading in a huge game. I swear to god it reminds me so much of Fulmer in his later years when he could no longer just show up and out-talent 99% of teams in the country.

I'm thankful for all the talent Lyle has brought to Tennessee but it's fricking shame that he can't do anything with it.

I should've known how that game was going to go when we kicked a FG on the six inch line. I mean, holy shite, OU had no answer at all for our defense and the loudest crowd in Tennessee history. They were on the ropes for 45 minutes of the game and we never even attempted a big right hook to finalize them.

I thought it would be fun to laugh at y'all's loss, but I respect that y'all decided on a public melt instead of slinking away like little pussies. Do what I do when the season goes wrong but you still have a team with talent--start imagining playing spoiler and wrecking somebody else's season. :-D

I'm not ready to jump off the bridge yet.

There is PLENTY of blame to go around last night.

Several receivers got hit right in the hands only to have the ball bounce off.

Dobbs threw about half his passes at....well...I'm not sure what he was throwing at.

The OL continues to collapse so Dobbs actually did okay considering he was running for his life half the night.

Mayfield gave every man on the defense a chance to sack him on one play...he broke 16 tackles in the backfield and still got the pass off.

Butch can't make the plays for them.

I know man but damn. I do think OU would've packed it in if Ellis doesn't drop that touchdown on the first possession of the 2nd half.

Lyle not giving it to Hurd on 3rd and 4th down set the tone for the game that he would be playing not to lose and I'm sure Stoops realized that. I said it was a bad call when it happened and it looks 10x worse now. You cannot tell me that 240lb Jalen Hurd could not get six inches on two carries. And even if they did stop it, so what? Oklahoma would've been pinned inside the one and they were not about to march 99 yards at that point in the game.

Easily last night. It stings way worse when you're actually a pretty good team and you blow a HUGE win at home in front of the loudest crowd in Neyland Stadium history.

Butch in the 4th quarter looked terrified to me. Like he was scared to lose instead of ready to step on their throats to win.

if we had looked like Tennessee did I would feel much better than I do about our season so... could be worse. UT should have won that game. I feel like the refs screwed them late in the game.

Story of his time at Tennessee, he can recruit but he's in over his head in the SEC.

There were two horrendous calls on Oklahoma's last drive but it should have never came to that.

We should have blown them out or at least won by 14+ points.

He is just not an SEC caliber coach. He will leave some talent for the next guy though.

I said when it was 17-3. If they let OU score, they're going to lose this game. The coaches, players, and fans can't handle adversity. They freak out and choke. It's happened twice in big games that they have played in Neyland in the past two years. When they play teams they think they should beat, they choke. It's the brand of Tennessee football.

It's a bad loss to a good team. The way we lost is inexcusable

This I can relate to. Being a Mizzou fan, I have been down this road many times. And Mizzou fans trolling Vol fans, let's be honest, Pinkel is known for doing what Butch did last night, letting off the gas instead of stomping them when the opposing team is down. Point being, watch what you post, because it can and will bite you in the arse.

Mizzou wouldn't of beaten OU last night the way we have been playing. Just food for thought..
