John and Edward Rutledge (Rutledge Chapel, the oldest building on campus I believe, 1805(?)) are the big ones. They owned slaves, Edward signed the Declaration of Independence and John was the country's 2nd Chief Justice.

No they secured money from the federal government for the building. Its why Richard Shelby has a building named after him at virtually every school in Alabama. It was not Strom's money it was tax payer money. The university agreed to name the building after him, like Shelby, if he secured the funding

At that time Malcolm X and others that felt that way were responding to 325 years or so of mistreatment and injustice by the Majority Group in America

Carolina is Latin for Charles, who represented royal absolutism, economic and political subjugation of the working classes, western imperialism, genocide of Native Americans and the slave trade! How dare the state of South Carolina and its flagship university carry the name of that evil white devil! I demand the name of both be changed immediately!
