Wait, when did it die? What happened to all the teams that were supposed to play big 12 games last year??

It's still alive to my knowledge. Y'all left, and so did we.

I grew up in B12 country.
It’s funny how the North was the powerhouse division when the conference formed (Nebraska, KSU, Colorado) and a 7-4 Texas squad winds up with a major upset in St Louis. Over time, the North became an afterthought and it was the Texas/OU game that would be the decider.

Go and see if you can find out why the north division became an afterthought.

Let me guess, big bad Tejas?
It became an afterthought because Mack Brown and Bob Stoops lit the fire under two programs. And it’s not like aTm was dogshit.

The elimination of partial qualifiers.

The Big 12 was at its best when it was loaded with grudge games among some really great offensive minds. And for a while—there was a golden era for sure—it was incredible to watch. It was impossible not to watch, and if you were in the middle of it, it was thrilling as hell.
I guess you had to have been there, I don’t remember anything about it other than weak defenses maybe.

Circa 2004 until aTm’s departure, it really was entertaining. You had cutting edge offenses engaging in shootouts each week. That wasn’t yet the norm in college football.

I still believe that was a product of Mike Leach trying to compensate for lesser athletes at the LOS. His ideas (I know he wasn't the sole inventor or even the original inventor, it was Mummy) - but his ideas spread to the other Big 12 teams. And that was to execute an offense built on quick-strike pass patterns with 4 and sometimes 5 WR's lined up in space.
Having said that, I f'ng hated that crap. Sounds like a bunch of people in this thread liked it. I didn't. I was always more fond of the balanced, SEC teams.

Eh, it was entertaining for what it was. I hate how all teams try to run versions of it. A fun part of CFB was the variety you could get. Nebraska running the option, Pac 10 teams airing it out, and yes, the SEC did seem more balanced.

Man there was so much innovation there if you’re a football nerd. Get the book by smart football that go over the history of the offfenses.
VY and Greg taking the zone read spread and making it the most dominant offense in CFB (still is, the bones of it at least, by trophy count). The innovation to the spread definitely tracks to these B12 coaches.
Leach and the Air Raid built from the old bones of the Air Coryell offense.
Run pass option (RPO) and No huddle/ up Tempo are all traced to the B12 golden days.
Baylor’s use of the spread.
Gary patterson’s use of the 3-3-5 to try and slow down these offenses.
There’s so much history in that big 12 offensive golden era. Unfortunately, it was a bit lopsided and defenses suffered in that time.

Please respect the other teams that took it away from Oklahoma after 2020. Oklahoma hasn't won the Big 12 championship since 2020. Oklahoma won't do any better in the SEC. People see Oklahoma nowadays as an afterthought.

Missouri would have stayed in the Big 12 if it weren’t for OU’s Boren holding a press conference at the same time as Mizzou’s Chancellor Brady speaking as Big 12 Chair. Brady was speaking of unity in the conference at the same time Boren held a press conference saying OU was not going to be a wall flower in conference realignment.
Brady saw that, said frick this and called Bernie Machen at Florida and said we want in the SEC.

There is always an instinctual reluctance to like any kind of horn post, but I am occasionally able to overcome it. Good job, sir. Welcome to the SEC.
Oh yeah….horns down

well the ‘’last Days in the Big 12” were bad. As soon as it was announced we were going into he SEC the refs used the subjectively called penanlties to influence games away from OU and Texas. There was one season where holding was called against the OU conference opponent a total of about 3 times in that entire season, while OU had about 5 holding calls a game. I believe there was a season where Texas had no holding calls against them for a conference season. PI calls were the other “subjective “ way to control a game that last game against Okie St the non-called obvious PI by Stoops defender in the end zone gave the game to Okie St.
Those last couple of years the Big 12 was bush league. I am glad we are in the SEC for other reasons but a more level playing field is welcome.
The Big 8 was great. Even with just 8 teams one year the Big 8 had the #1,#2,,#3 ranked teams. The Big 12 had some good years the HS 7 on 7 movement in Texas generated lots of great QB, WR, and DBs many played in the Big 12 many in the SEC. the later move by some schools in the Big 12 to hire National Champ HC from lower levels lead to coaching innovations and different game time coaching that changed the game from the same old same old, you had to expect the unexpected.
I am really pumped to be in the SEC and to play the schedule we have this year even though it seems like we have a much tougher conference schedule than most in the SEC this year. We return the most defensive production in the SEC, we a 5* QB that was #1 QB his year, we have an OL coach that always replaces a handful of NFL draftees with future NFL draftees, and we finally have a place kicker. If our QB plays to his potential the sky is the limit.
