Lane Kiffin. Some numbers.

Excluding time at FAU, Lane is 10-19 against ranked opponents.
15 games against the Top 10. So, over half his ranked opponents are in the Top 10.
11 games against the Top 5.
This is a pretty tough slate for ranked opponents.
In a youtube video talking about the possibility of Kiffin to UF, a commenter said Lane sucks. Thought I would look at some numbers with some perspective.
2009 Tennessee
Vols were a dumpster fire in 09.
They played 4 ranked teams and went 1-3.
#1 UF
#1 Bama
#21 South Carolina (win)
#12 Va Tech
He played UF and Bama better than anyone else that year. Lost by 10 in Gainesville and frustrated UF all day. He had a great game plan. His team outplayed Bama and should have won that game, if the kicker makes that 44yd FG or if the Vols block Mt. Cody.
2010 USC
USC was not a bad program when he got there, but they weren't very good either. Things under Pete Carroll really spiraled downward by that time.
USC was 1-2 against ranked teams, including a loss to #1 Oregon.
2011 USC
Upset #4 Oregon, lost to #4 Stanford. Finished the year ranked #6. 1-2 against ranked teams.
2012 USC
Started the year #1, finished unranked. Not a good look.
0-4 against ranked teams, including #21 Stanford, #2 Oregon, #17 UCLA, #1 Notre Dame.
2013 USC
Coached for 5 games then fired. No ranked opponents. I don't really know why USC got rid of him. He made things better, produced an excellent team then the wheels fell off. I don't know if that was bad coaching or if there were mitigating circumstances there.
In total he is 3-11 against ranked teams so far. However, he's faced the #1 team 4 times. Seven of these games were against the Top 5.
Skip FAU.
2020 Ole Miss
1-2 against ranked teams, including #5 UF, #2 Bama, both losses. Program was a trainwreck after Matt Luke.
2021 Ole Miss
2-3 against ranked teams, including #1 Bama, and #7 Baylor.
2022 Ole Miss
1-1 against ranked teams, beating #7 Kentucky and losing to #9 Bama.
2023 Ole Miss
3-2 against ranked teams, including losing to #2 UGA and beating #10 Penn St.
So he's 10-19 against ranked teams in total. He's 7-8 at Ole Miss, which is quite an improvement from Vol and USC tenures. 8 of those games at Ole Miss are against teams in the Top 10.
Lane knows how to coach. He was brilliant at gameplanning early in his career with teams that were pretty bad with regard to overall talent. He didn't do well at program management and imploded at USC. I think the light came on when he was at FAU.
I think it's wrong when people like Josh Pate say that he can't win a natty at Ole Miss. He would be a great fit at UF, but he's a good fit at Ole Miss. It would be a homerun hire for UF, but it wouldn't surprise me if he stayed at Ole Miss. They are a Top 5 team right now.

I think most coaches have rough records against ranked opponents, especially when at schools with lesser talent

I think Lane has done a very good job against ranked opponents, considering where he's been. His coaching in 2009 was very underrated. His record keeps improving. I don't really know the format for this new playoff, but I expect him to get Ole Miss to the semi-finals.

What people don’t give him enough credit for is that his pro approach to roster management is tailor made for the NIL/portal era. That has taken him to elite status.
The catch for anyone who wants him is there’s a good chance things don’t stay as they are forever and if restrictions are imposed it might knock him back down a peg, which is the chance you’d take at this point.

I think teams that want Lane want his offensive playbook imo. And I don’t blame them.

This.. This is all UF fans want. To see the program moving in the right direction.
And I haven't looked it up, but why leave out FAU?

I don't know how we could look at his tenure at FAU and add to his work at UT and USC and Ole Miss. FAU is a pretty big drop from the major conferences. It seems a lot like Napier at Louisiana, IMO.
FAU plays in CUSA, whose members are:
FIU, Jax State, Kennesaw St, Liberty, La Tech, Middle Tenn, New Mex St, Sam Houston, UTEP, W Kentucky
Here are some numbers and facts:
2017 FAU
Conference champ.
Boca Raton Bowl champ. FAU is in Boca.
11-3 record.
Undefeated in conference play.
Lost to #9 Wisconsin, 31-14
2018 FAU
5-7 record
Lost to #7 OU and #16 UCF, neither game very close.
2019 FAU
CUSA conference champ
11-3 record, 7-1 in conference play
Boca Raton Bowl champ
Lost to #5 Ohio St and #17 UCF, played them back to back to open the season, neither game was close. Then lost only once more that season, going 11-1 in that stretch.
