Ladd McConkey...He’s having a pretty good rookie year so far. 380 yards and 3 TDs.

Really though, it just makes me more curious about which SEC coach said this:

quote:

I’m shocked a kid like Ladd McConkey even finds his way on the field at a place like Georgia,” one head coach said. “I’m shocked with Bennett, too.

That’s all mind-numbing to me. Coach Monken is one of the best in the country at getting those average-arse dudes playing pretty good.

(McConkey) is just whatever. I still don’t think I would take that kid. It’s crazy, right? You look at the kid and he can’t even fill his pads out.”

Article says it’s a head coach.

He’s arguably the best WR in the AFC West right now, but not good enough to make this dude’s college roster

If that was a real quote from a head coach, that is some seriously poor talent identification

in the history of college football that I know of, I've never heard Drinkwuss's bullshite excuse for not playing football in college at any level, or any sport at the college level

We've all read former players who were college coaches "tore out their knee", "had a career ending injury", etc etc etc, or they played another sport in college like baseball (Freeze, Dykes), or even Mike Leach who played rugby

Drinkwuss' excuse was: "If I walked on at Arkansas Tech, I would have lost my academic scholarship."

I've never heard that shite in my life. I think it's total made up shite he fed to two publications. You can search NCAA policy far and wide, and there's literally zero evidence people had to forego walking on to a team "because they would lose their academic scholarship."

he's a jealous little cuck bitch

he fed that shite to some publication with the University of Missouri and also to I think the Kansas City Star newspaper.

Nobody wins without players - nobody. That's a coach who thinks very highly of himself.

Dudes in College and the NFL line up and say this honking can't beat me.

Then he flashes 4 3 speed and shifty hips and beats their arse over and over again.

McConkey wanted to go to Tennessee but they wouldn't offer him a scholarship. There's a hint.

Academic scholarships count (or did, not sure if they enforce any rules now) against a team’s total scholarship limit. The rule is/was in place to keep teams from finding a lot of 5* that had previously undiscovered genuses deserving academic scholarship.

Most likely he was told if he wanted to walk on he’d have to voluntarily give up his scholarship. No coach is going to self-impose a scholarship reduction so a kid can ride the pine and get his picture in the program.

Not to be hard headed willingly, but I'm going to have to just be hard headed on that one. I've never heard that in my life and I just don't believe it.

I've certainly never heard a college coach using that as an excuse why he didn't play a sport.

but Div II especially, they have about 45 scholarships to divide up, I can't find anything online that says the NCAA would deny a kid using academic scholarships if he walked on. Div III does not have athletic scholarships, so all those kids basically have academic scholarships. I get that.

but Div II and up, I just don't believe it. Seems if that were true there would be shouts from the mountaintops at how obtuse a rule like that would be

so I see some guys saying that on some message boards online, but not any legit sites

there's a BYU site thread this month where one guy is saying academic schollies do count against the total, and another guy who was a former walkon is saying, no, they don't - so just opinions there

also, what about all the minor sports? Telling me some golfers don't have academic schollies? Or soccer players or swimmers? I don't believe it.

Back to Drinkwitz, I just can't stand him and I think he's lying. Period.

Look at Bruce Pearl. He didn't play any sports in college, but he doesn't go around lying about why.

NFL offenses are extremely precise, and so there's a market there for guys who may not run 4.4's, but they are terrific possession receivers.

1. run precise routes and find the sweet spots
2. don't drop balls - do ball drills in the offseason, never stop
3. be a smart blocker, keep your feet under you for leverage
4. be willing to take hits and fight off pretty vicious strip attempts
5. read the hell out of defensive coverages, before and after the snap
