Acceptance rates don't tell the whole story. Texas is a massive state, and A&M attracts that state's cream-of-the-crop STEM students. Liberal arts institutions tend to be a lot more selective.

I also just looked up their acceptance rate, and Google spat out 70.5%. Where did you get 85%?
