Everyone, aside from the herd of mouth-breather Gumps, has already connected the dots on why those Bama defenses - really the entire roster -were so dominant back then. It’s literally screaming in your face and you go out of your way to pretend it doesn’t exist.
Alabama defense was good with Steele and Pruitt too. The Golding experiment and move away from defenses built “inside out” was a failure. That’s it.

Who's y'all QB this year??

If it's Milroe we don't even win the West.

I think the issue is less coordinators for Bama and a shift in philosophy where they are pushing for individual awards by overemphasizing the top talent (and then bitching when no one is ready to step in if the top talent is injured). They go for record recruiting class numbers, but then wonder why their team is filled with primadonnas.
Also, yes you can say that their two losses could have gone either way, but they also had 3 wins where the same could be said. That is 5 games in a 12 game schedule (almost half) that were toss ups, and the teams on the schedule weren't exactly in their best years either.
I don't know how quickly a culture on a football team can change, but when the head coach is spending the offseason whining about not getting to the playoff with two losses, without winning a division, and without winning a conference, well then all I can say is the entitlement seems to be ingrained.
Seriously, they knew they had to break in a new QB this year, and they gave Milroe 1 pass attempt in a meaningless bowl game. They cared more about giving Bryce Young another game to impress the scouts than getting the team ready for next year.

He's 71. That's exactly what has happened.

I'm not sold he has lost his touch, but the mistake that Alabama fans make is that he will never lose his touch. It happens to all of them. Paterno. Bowden. All of them.
To think he will never lose the touch

Depends on the position. Anything Pete coached was not well developed. He could turn gold into shite.

I agree with everything in your post but this.
Saban doesn't care about recruiting rankings.
If you said that Saban is going for the best at each position without looking deeper at the mental fortitude of each player and how that builds a team... I'm on board 100%.
The net result is the same ( a team full of "whataboutme")

I was talking about overall draft production, but maybe uga simply raised the bar rather than bama Falling off.
