Exactly. If you're trying to pick a "sleeper," from the West, Auburn seems like the best choice. If we had a proven gamer at QB, we'd be up there as far as chances to win the West.

It's not like he is saying Auburn will win the west. He is saying if they have a few things fall their way and a couple of the other teams have issues , they could have a chance.

Well duh. When Auburn is picked to finish last, they are more likely to finish first. If they're picked to finish first, they're more likely to finish last.

Plenty of people were. We were preseason #22, behind Bama, Arkansas, and LSU.
There were huge question marks about Cam Newton going into the season. He looked average at best in the spring game, and was inconsistent and inaccurate all through summer and fall camp. On here he was called "Brent Schaeffer 2.0".
People acknowledged the potential of Cam in Malzahn's offense and his athletisicm, and the fact that we had a shite ton of seniors. But most thought we'd have an 8-4 regular season.
