Key word is “chance.”
If we observe 20 years down the road and Kirby has 7-8 NC’s and has sustained the program at the top…sure, there is a “chance” at the argument.

People act like this is an off the wall crazy prediction. The guy is 46, played in 2 National Championship games. Lost one in overtime vs Saban and beat Saban for one. If he lives to Sabans current age he has 24 years to go. To think its not possible for the guy to pull as many as Saban is just naïve. He has top 3 classes year in and year out.

it is crazy. Saban is the best coach in the history of the sport of football, at any level. To think that anyone, especially someone coaching concurrently with saban, is going to end up being better is just ridiculous.

Let me do one now:
Will probably get downvoted, and that makes sense. Riley is relatively young, and has his program in the right direction. Could he end up as a greater coach than Saban when his career is over? I think so. I'll doubt he will test the NFL.

I get what the OP is saying, and what your response is supposed to mean. But you missed...
Riley vs Kirby:
Riley seemed to hit the ceiling at Oklahoma, couldn't win a national title. But honestly, objectively, I don't think there's a ceiling at OU; so that suggests he hit HIS ceiling.
Playoffs or not, Kirby's teams have seemed stronger, better recruits, better defenses. Kirby has better talent, Riley has the flashier offense.
Most likely the biggest whiff was the NFL question; Kirby really doesn't seem like an NFL guy. Someone else mentioned Les Miles 2.0, I think that's true along the lines of 'his scheme wins where he's at, and doesn't translate well to the NFL'.
Whereas, I just watched an NFL playoff game coached by Kliff Kingsbury vs Sean McVay. I think Lincoln Riley matches that profile, and to be totally honest I'd take Riley over Kingsbury. I think Riley is in the NFL in the next several years... I think he might take the Raiders job today if they offered. And it wouldn't shock me if they did.
Kirby is going to stay at UGA a long time, UNLESS their fans demand he wins titles at the same pace Saban did at Alabama. He's probably going to win at least 10 games every season, and get a few more titles before it's over. He certainly hasn't lost a chance to surpass Saban yet, he's ahead of his pace. But he's not going to string a decade together like Nick did.

So you neither see nor conceive of the advantages of in-state talent?
Nope, see WG's reply. Georgia is different from Alabama and Louisiana.

Guess we're just going to omit the 3 times in between where Saban was standing between him and a chance at the championship.
What happened in those 3 games?

Your lips to God's ears... but uh... no.
Even if I thought another Saban-esque run was possible in the near future, there have been some behind the scenes rumors that Kirby may not want to be a lifer... The constant recruiting grind and the sacrifices that it takes on your family... keeping in mind that he's got young kids...
Saban is a unicorn in the modern era.
