30 years of SEC dominance by the bagman

I love when teams outside the SEC tried to pretend no one was paying players under the table. Always gives me a good laugh.also a sign of their ignorance

probably because they're the best CFB team of all time

Even many of the best college players they played - Wuerffel, Hilliard, Anthony, Detmer, Plummer, Carruth, etc. - were not yet at the peak of their collegiate powers. They were all young and returned better in 1996.

most florida fans would tell you that 95 team was better than 96, and in fact may have been the best team they ever fielded (perhaps surpassed by 08).

Negative.

You’re not going to beat a team like, say, 2018 Clemson with WR’s that never even saw an NFL practice field. Running the I into the teeth of a defense with three first round DL, a DC with extensive experience against the option, and an O that can score against anyone isn’t going to work out too well.

That combination is exactly what caused Osborne to struggle against peak OU, Miami, and FSU. They didn’t face future NFL studs on D in 1995.

Negative.

The 1996 returned virtually everyone plus the addition of Bob Stoops on D.

doubtful, Saban had great players no doubt, but the man could flat out coach, just go look at his 08 and 09 teams, they had some talent but nothing like other saban teams that did not win a title, just saying talent helps but you better have a team that has hunger and toughness to win, that 08 team was led by ex Shula players for the most part and went to the SEC Championship and lost to UF and Tebow, the same team for except For Trent Richardson went to the Natty and won, again with mostly ex Shula players starting on both O and D. Just saying sometimes to many five stars is not a good thing, IMO. Those bama 08/09 teams had some damn monster on them that saban recruited, Julio, Mark Ingram 3 star, Rolo McClain, Kareem Jackson, T. Richardson, and few others...

The bagman era is over. Just like the white player era ended. The student athlete era also ended decades ago. Many different era’s have come and gone. Teams like Yale and Harvard dominated the student athlete era. Bama, ND, GT, and others dominated the white player era. The SEC dominated the bagman era.

All of that is history.

We are in a new era and the BIG is dominating. 3 straight Natties and no SEC team to be found in the big game. I think the SEC will eventually get back but the SEC was so vested in the bagman system that they were slow to respond to the new era. Now, that they’ve been losing players every year and losing games they normally have won, the panic has set in and these threads are a sign of the panic.
