The writer is simply trying to convince himself that losing one of the nation's best offensive coordinators isn't too big of a deal. Since when has Saban been dubbed as some sort of offensive genius?
I think this is a very accurate statement(yours not the writer's). I think he goes to Oregon, but no way he goes to LSU.

I don't know, I'll ask one for you. Here is what everybody but LSU fans know. An oc job at Bama > than an oc job at LSU. And it isn't even close.
Any job on Bama's staff is better. LSU isn't exactly pumping out head coaching prospects.
Hell, they have a head coach we wouldn't even interview as a position coach. Why? because nobody wanted the job. They couldn't even lure Houston's...HOUSTON'S coach. Yes, the Houston friggin Cougars of the AAC.
Lane goes to LSU it's just to be able to do whatever he wants. I'm REAL SURE Orgeron wouldn't hesitate to put him in his place. He'll be lucky if Lane makes it to team meetings.

Why do you hate LSU so much?

I do not. I hate their ad and the decisions he has made and I blame him mostly for LSU's train wreck of a season. The SEC needs a stronger LSU. A lot of LSU fans create conspiracies and do all kinds of silly things that demand to be made fun of.

This is an epic train wreck waiting to happen. LSU has showed everyone how you totally screw up a coaching staff.

Saban needed Lane as much as Lane needed another chance. Saban didn't look to hire Kiffin so they could be buddies. He wanted Kiffins abilities to give his team the best chance to win championships.

What? I agree that Saban gave him a great opportunity to gain a lot of the respect he had lost but he would have definitely got another shot. He is fairly young.
I do wonder where Kiffin would be now if Saban hadn't given him that shot, though. Does anyone think he'd have proven his mettle and be in the conversation for major HC jobs if he'd been hired by, say, Vanderbilt? He's certainly benefited from both the high profile and the talent offered by Bama. Which means it's entirely possible he'll crash and burn again at his next HC stop. But analyzing him requires more football savvy than most people on this board can muster. I'd like to see a real football guru break down Lane's coaching choices and player development.

Wouldn't Lane be next in line when God retires from coaching?

And at the time, you guys loved it, declaring that Kiffin was going to be a huge failure and the team would implode.
There is a moral to this story, but I'll let you figure it out.

A very astute post. Saban, like Bryant, can be flexible and adjust his football ideology with the times. This is why both are/were so successful. Saban certainly is able to identify talent on the playing AND coaching level, while Kiffin realizes that he needs to gain maturity and discipline from someone like Saban.

We won a national championship with Doug Nussmeier at OC. Let that sink in for a moment.

You paint with a large brush. I honestly don't remember my reaction to kiffin coming to Bama initially.
But you forgot to add the many Bama fans who were against it, and not happy.
And if you are looking for stories full of morals you may be too delicate to be on this message board.
People talk shite no matter if it's a good hire or not.
