Sorry if it's Germans, but I just heard this on the radio in Memphis. Jackson Clarion Ledger and Ole Miss announcers have confirmed it. This is hilarious!! I told all of my Ole Miss friends Nutt would drive him off within 3 years. I stuck to my guns last year, even with their offensive success, and told them he would eventually leave or get pushed out because that's what Nutt does. He can't get/keep good QBs and he can't work with OCs. He strikes again! There is no way Austin would leave for an Ivy League job this late unless something is up.

Unfortunately, you are probably 100% correct.

Of course, it COULD be that Kent is just going to Cornell to get some on-the-job training as a head coach in preparation for taking over from Nutt in the near future.....

Nope he is tired of Nutt calling 1st and 2nd down. Wants to do his own thing.

Is this true? From one end of the academic specrum to an Ivy League school. It's preparation for going back to take over the Saskatchewan Roughriders actually.

SO this wont effect any of the current Ole Miss recruits? Even the uncommitted ones?

I can't say that I do. I'm not claiming to. I am inferring from what we all saw go down at Arky over his years there. Ask most any Arky fan on this board and they will tell you how well he works with real play calling OCs. Tell me he isn't a control freak when it comes to the offense. Tell me he doesn't have a habit of getting his hands up in there at the drop of a hat.

Not saying it won't because you never know, but the recruits that he had a hand in were also being heavily recruited by their respective position coaches at Ole Miss. Austin had a very small role as a recruiter.

Can't say that he doesn't. But your post insinuates that Austin was responsible for our offense being great and that Nutt ran him off. Both of which are completely false.

I think Austin had a lot to do with your success in 08. That is when all the OM fans I know were really getting on me about how he is an alum and will never leave. Some were singing a different tune this year, but still. You throw the man under the bus after 1 year?

Being an alum who is not exactly a spring chicken, and being that it is EXTREMELY late for coaching moves that don't involve the NFL, you think he just woke up and decided, "Hey, I'll take a huge step down today. That ought to be a great career move?" Really? You don't think Nutt pushing him aside in the latter half of the year has anything to do with him leaving?

Not trying to throw him under the bus at all. He has a genius offensive mind. The problem, like I posted in the other thread, is that his schemes were way too complicated for SEC ball. Austin was given the play calling at the beginning of the year and our offense was flat out pathetic. It just didn't work.

Our offense in 2008 looked great because we used a very watered-down, half of a playbook by Austin. Nutt made it public Spring of last year that he gave Austin full reigns over the playbook and play callin.

With Malzahn, we heard everything. For example, "It's a high school offense and will never work in the SEC" and "The HUNH or 'spread' will never work in the SEC", etc., etc.
This is what it boils down to: The rebel offense will be successful with some really good RBs and offensive line. The passing game will not ever fully launch as long as Hootie is the coach. It's really fun to watch with the likes of McCluster, McFadden, Jones, or Hillis. Otherwise...

Here's the deal.
Austin, like Malzahn is an offensive genius. Unlike Malzahn, his system is too complicated for SEC football players. Hootie deserves the blame for the Malzahn fiasco, but Kent Austin's offense wasn't going to work without a really intelligent player at QB.
We don't have one of those on staff right now.
This is the SEC.

Austin is having some family issues is a major reason for the move.
