I guess it depends how strong Sumlin's ties are to his home state on whether that would be strong enough for him to coach at Alabama.
He didn't play there, never coached there. It might not be home to him any longer. If not, what can Bama offer that he doesn't have, or won't have in a few years?
A&M can pay him more that Bama can, more fertile recruiting in Texas, will have a newly-renovated stadium, etc. most importantly he can establish himself as the Man at A&M and not run the risk of having to follow Saban and being compared to the Bear.

Sumlin is good but I'd like to see how he does without a stud college QB. In the 1 year without Keenum, he went 5-7. And that was his 3rd year there, so it's not like it was a brand new system to the backup.

Didn't know that, and it's a fair point. But it remains to be seen if he can win without great QB play. Brian Kelly has already proven that, not only at ND but also at Cincy when he had to play something like 4 or 5 QBs in the same season and still won 9 games.

I'd speak up for Miles here but I believe that was one of his worst games this year and he admitted as much. Too many cute trick plays that were not needed.

How can Sumlin be penalized for coaching good QBs?! If some of you would get your heads out of your asses you'd know Sumlin has coached good QBs since he was at Oklahoma. Plus, he was taught by Mike Price and Joe Tiller. Sumlin is an offensive genius and he'll continue to coach elite QBs because he knows how to create and teach such players.
And, the way Sumlin is recruiting at A&M, I wouldn't wait on him not having an elite QB.

So? If I were a coach, I would make it a priority every couple of years to get an elite QB. In no other college sport can one player out of so many on the team mean the difference between a .500 season and NC contention.

Not sure if serious. Kelly won 2 national titles in Division II, took Cincy to a BCS game and an undefeated season (first ever there). Now he has ND undefeated in the BCS national title game.
