I've always been a Fields skeptic, but rewatching the LSU-GA game from last season it boggles my mind how he never let Fields even make an attempt. The game was mostly out of hand anyway and Fields' presence opened up things for Holyfield on UGA's first TD drive. Fromm was obviously having a bad game and thrown off by LSU's looks defensively.

Did he give Fields much of a chance in any big games?

No

But the real question for that day is why we stopped running the ball.

Fields had more pass attempts than Tebow as a freshman.

He wasn’t. Fields scrambled in 40-50% of his designed passing plays.

It’s possible that Fields got better over the past year, I know it’s a crazy thought but I’ve seen it happen with other QBs...

I guess we will never really know, but I'm glad.

Why was Smart so afraid of letting Fields pass? by Dawgfanman

Agree, and OSU's offense is a much better fit for him too and he's playing against arse defenses up there.

Maybe some of these coaches don’t let the younger athletic QBs pass the ball because they are scared the guys would do good. If Fields had the chance to pass the ball and did good then their would be a QB battle. Smart clearly favors Fromm for some reason.

Prob because he got impatient. GA Was down 16 at half.

He could’ve been overwhelmed by life in general last year, most people forget these are 18 year olds. I’ve got a son near that age and it’s easy for school, life, etc to overwhelm them. Fields is obviously an incredible talent and I wish he was still here. It’s still possible, even probable, that last year he was not our best option at QB. It’s a fact that he sure as hell would be this year.

We brought help down to slow the run and asked Greedy and Fulton to keep your receivers in check, which they were able to do. You’ll probably see a similar strategy on Saturday.

LSU made defensive adjustments, which was the major reason.

I've never seen a more obvious play calling mistake ,not counting specific plays, then the abortion of the run game by Georgia against Lsu 2018

Lol, the B1G has 6 of the top 12 defenses in the nation. But I’m sure they don’t compare to the likes of South Carolina.

You're correct, their stats are inflated since only OSU has elite talent and a modern offense. Look at what happened when Wisconsin's statistically awesome defenses go up against OSU

I think this narrative got lost in the reality:

Georgia ran it 10 times for about 70 yards in their first two drives.

They ran it 20 more times for the rest of the game for 40 yards. LSU's defense made an adjustment and started stuffing those runs that were previously very successful.

UGA's 3rd drive on:

Run, Run, Pass, Punt
Run, Run, Pass, Punt
Run, Pass x5, Punt (2 minute drill)

Now a 16 point game

Run, Pass, Run, Run, Pass, Sack, Pass, Pass, Pass, Run, Sack, FG
Pass, Pass, INT
Run, Pass, Pass, Run, Pass, Run, Run (TD)
Run, Run, Sack, Punt

From here on it was a 3-score game with less than 10 minutes left in the game, UGA went hurry-up mode.
