I'm not sure if that's better than a Life Championship though.

Easy. We would have won.

And I agree. Texas' defense was horribly overrated since no one in the Big 12 actually ran the football. You never know though. Tennessee still beats FSU even with Weinke.

We got rings for losing in the Outback Bowl during the Zook years but I think those were gifts from the committee since Ohio State got them too for losing to South Carolina a couple of years before.
Heck, OSU got rings for losing that shitty Gator Bowl to us.

Does Tennessee still play for the title that year if Arkansas didn't blow the game at the end? Was Weinke hurt at the end of the year?

Miss State played Tennessee for the Sec Champ game and Arkansas messed up. But I ask you, can't everyone think back on a game we'd like to say we should have won?

Tennessee went undefeated. Enough said. They won the natty and that is all that counts. 13-0 is a pretty good record if you ask me. Why people can't let something go is beyond me.

I mean, it isn't something I've been hung up on for years. I never implied Tennessee wasn't deserving of the title that year. But it is something interesting to think about during offseason when nothing else is happening.

What horse hockey! Tennessee 35 - Bama 18. Please tell us again about how dominant the 1941 Tide team was.

UT struggled with State in the SECCG. That was with James Johnson being out with a groin injury and the Dawgs had no offense.
UT should have blown us out yet we were leading in the 4th quarter.
We blitzed on a 3rd down play and our LB missed the sack on Tee and he threw the go ahead score.
Later UT scored an insurance TD to make it 24-14.
The State D was stout though that year.
The Vols were undefeated so I classify them as a great team that won the close games and had some fortune along the way. But in order to go undefeated you have to have some luck to do it and they did.
At the same time, they still earned it because they answered the bell every time out.

The 1998 Vols were undefeated. That is something that Steve Spurrier never could do with the Gatas.

UT definitely had some luck in '98. But as Napoleon said, the efficient create their own luck.

Arky called a bizarre play that created the only scenario by which they could lose. They made up for it in'99.

FSU without Weinke was a much more tractable beast.

UF had -19 yards rushing and five TO's and their QB was sacked 5 times.

Billy Ratliff recovered fumbles in 3 consecutive games including UF and Arky.

Al Wilson caused 3 fumbles against UF. Al lives here in Gwinnett and I got to meet him at an alumni function a few years ago.

FIGHT WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT FOR THE ORANGE AND WHITE!!!

'98 was UT's 7th undefeated season.

Some teams don't have any.
