It's unfortunate that he had to say it like this. I think he's just trying to make sure that the 11% of LSU's total budget given to LSU by the state does not drop in the next administration. Blowing it out of proportion and describing it as on 'life support' is totally inaccurate. He's just grandstanding and lobbying to ensure future state budgets include what they have always had for LSU.

I hope that is the only advantage.

I don't think you understand a thing about budgets or the Louisiana tax code.
Say, compared to Texas.

I do not and don't pretend to, however I don't think it is a requirement to understand the situation and how it was alleviated.

How would a Texas court have anything to do with a dispute between an LA citizen and his employer located in LA?...

Well, as I said before, I'm an employment lawyer and I have yet to see a convincing argument that establishes Chavis' liability.
Even if you could prove he breached the agreement by engaging in "damaging behavior to LSU" as Funk states (I assime that is actually In the agreement) a breach of an employment agreement doesn't mean anything without resulting damages. The 400k would not be damages there - the 400k is only the appropriate damage of LSU can establish Chavis was working for A&M before his LSU contract expired.
In Funk's analysis, show me one single dollar of damages that resulted from that breach to LSU (again, you can't use the early termination/contract payments as evidence here) What money did it lose or what intangible items (such as recruits) did it lose? LSU is in a better position financially since Chavis' departure with a comparable employee so there's no damages there either. So fine, Chavis breached, here's $1 and we will be on our way.
I'm not saying that is how this will play out, I'm just saying that legally it's not quite as cut-and-dry and you guys think and Chavis does have a good argument.

It's a dispute over who has jurisdiction to hear the case, but I haven't read any of the court documents so I really don't know what Chavis's grounds are for trying to get into Texas. I'm sure they have a better law in place that helps Chavis in some way and keeps the matter away from what could be a pro LSU judge.
My guess is that he is trying to say that the matter happened in Texas and therefore a Texas court should have jurisdiction.

In all seriousness, would the picture of him at the recruit's house not qualify as establishing he was representing aTm? Or was he not under contract at that time?

very wrong, actually

In all seriousness, I don't know. That fact by itself - probably not. It will really depend on what else there is to link him and A&M around that time. I'm sure there are emails and everything else.
The truth will come out its almost impossible for two public entities to hide this kind of evidence

Absolutely, I just can't see how this isn't a smoking gun. He was out doing what is in a typical coach's job description with other aTm coaches in a recruit's home that was posted during his 30 day notice. The emails would just bolster the case if you ask me. Thanks for the answer man.
