Let’s not pretend like that should make it the norm going forward.
We've had 6+ year players going on 5+ years now. It's already the norm, whether anyone likes it or not.

Yeah but the only ones who’ve gotten that year because of the sniffles are hr Covid seniors and now Chambliss.

People have gotten a 6th year for anxiety, a sore knee, a sprained ankle, etc... let's not pretend like everyone who gets a 6th year suffered some truly devastating injury.

You don't have to just blindly believe me. You can easily Google it all yourself.

Aguilar's argument is even dumber than Chambliss'
1 year of football at JUCO in 2019 (yes 2019), he redshirted
2020 his JUCO didn't have a season
2021 Diablo Valley JUCO
2022 Diablo Valley JUCo
2023 App ST
2024 App St
2025 Tennessee
So he's asking to be an 8th year senior with no medical issues being the reason. He's actually been a starter on a football team 5 seasons already
I haven't been following. What's his actual argument? That the JUCO years shouldn't count towards his eligibility?

here is what Chat GPT says
quote:
Has the NCAA actually granted one for anxiety or similar mental health reasons?
There’s no widely publicized list of specific cases, and most NCAA decisions aren’t public, but two things indicate it can happen:
Division III has explicitly supported mental health hardship waivers, allowing schools to document conditions like anxiety or depression to seek a waiver under the same rules as a physical medical hardship.
Cases do become public where mental health was part of eligibility decisions: for example, college athletes have received hardship waivers for serious non-physical health issues and NCAA rules on other waivers recognize mental health documentation as legitimate when properly supported by licensed professionals.
Real-world examples
There isn’t a well-documented high-profile case explicitly showing the NCAA granting a medical redshirt solely for anxiety that is in major media. However, the rules explicitly allow mental illness to be documented in waiver requests if the athlete was prevented from competing and the documentation meets NCAA criteria (e.g., licensed mental health professional documentation).
Also, NCAA hardship waivers have been granted for serious illnesses (like cancer treatment) and for mental health in Division III contexts under expanded criteria.

Basically - same argument as the Pavia lawsuit last year which got him (and like 20-30 other football players) eligible for a 6th year last season.

He's relying on the Pavia JUCO argument, yes. Was hoping the Pavia case heard on Tuesday in federal court would have a ruling before today's hearing. Aguilar was originally a co-petitioner in that lawsuit but non-suited out of it before it was heard so he could re-file in Knox County.
