Texas A&N has suffered its first opt-out for the coming season, Jimbo Fisher announced on Tuesday, as star quarterback James Foster does not plan to play for the Aggies this fall. Foster was a big get in the class of 2018, which was the transition class after Kevin Sumlin's departure.

With the Aggies losing three veteran offensive linemen to retirement, there was one open spot under the 85-man scholarship limit, allowing Foster to remain on the team.

Fisher was also asked about injuries and, though the Aggie team is relatively healthy, the coach did share one player that is out for the season in redshirt freshman defensive tackle Adarious Jones.

"He had a knee injury this summer in workouts and he will be out for the season," Fisher said.

Wow, some big losses. Many Aggie fans have been calling for Foster to take over as the starter. Could be problematic.

Keep in mind that they were left with one scholarship RB after a flurry of transfers this spring. Stay tuned.

Strange that an offensive coach like Jimbo has three running backs, a stud quarterback, and three offensive linemen leave like that.

I fear he may be creating a toxic culture - much like he did at Florida State. Let’s hope not!

Is Foster the one who scored points 49 and 50
for us last year?

I thought foster was the one that was in the transfer portal?

Your obsession with randomly using the bold feature is weird

I like to highlight the main points:

- Foster (star QB, potential starter) opts out
- 3 offensive linemen retire
- Stud DL injured
- Only 1 scholarship RB

Just want to make it easier to read! Sorry for trying to help!

Foster was never going to play here. He was in the transfer portal earlier this year.

Adarius Jones loss stings. He wasn't a starter, but definitely coming on as a true fish and in the rotation.

The three OL that were lost never played a snap at A&M. They were being counted on as depth for this season so that certainly stings, but not impossible to overcome. Next man up.

All in all. Not great, but could be a lot worse. Thanks for the update.

Jimbo begged him to come back. He was listed on their most recent roster. Apparently his begging wasn’t enough for Foster to stick around though.

There are three (including Mond) QBs ahead of Foster on the depth chart. One is a true freshman that hasn't even taken a snap. That should tell you what you need to know about him.

He did enter portal
Probably why he opted out
It's hard to find a spot right now as teams are kind of in limbo
He probably moves on after the season when things clear up
Not sure why he doesn't stay and compete with Mond leaving

That’s a lie.

James Foster was the guy that came in when Mond got benched vs LSU. He was your #2 guy in your final game - and you didn’t have spring practice. Pretty clear he was #2, and again, many wanted him to start.

He scored 2 points for LSU

Wow. Nearly every single word of that statement...was wrong.

Foster was 3rd string last season. We'll sure miss his 3 completions out of 9 attempts for 30 yards and 5 carries for 15 yards.

As far as the "three veteran offensive linemen" lost to retirement, let's deep dive.

RS-SR Riley Anderson: Played in 3 combined games in 4 years.

RS-SO Barton Clement: Played 2 snaps in 2 seasons.

RS-SO Colten Blanton: Was never medically ready to play.

Jones' injury is unfortunate, as he would have provided quality depth this season based on what he showed last year.

That's funny, I count seven

SO Isaiah Spiller
SO Ainias Smith
FR Devon Achane
FR Deondre Jackson
FR Darvon Hubbard
RS JR Connor Blumrick
JR (JUCO Transfer) Earnest Crownover

Why must you lie? Zach Calzada was the #2 behind Mond, but didn't play to conserve his redshirt.

-He fell behind Calzada last season. The only reason he didn't fall behind Blumrick is that Blumrick moved to running back.

-He's already behind Mond, Calzada and King and would almost certainly fall behind Stowers in 2021.
