OR could it simply be that the elite kid and his parents test the waters before the kid makes the jump to the portal? Kids or their parents can reach out to a program any time they choose, especially if he's an elite athlete is looking for a change.

Why is 30 million for a recruiting class that hard to believe? Because you say so? Because a&m boosters desperate to win a championship would not be willing to pay that much? NFL owners pay about that much for a top 10 QB for a season. You get a Jerry Jones type and he would be more than happy to write that check just for the sake of his ego.
