Finebaum has said that his callers are not scripted but did admit that he does / did meet with some of them off the air. Jim also proclaimed that he is "a great actor". If you took "moron" and "idiot" out of his vocabulary. he could barely talk.

Thing is, he's still such a shitty caller. Shane from Centerpoint, Bobby from Homewood, Iman, Tammy...those were quality callers. I don't think anyone likes Jim, but I think that's why Paul likes him. He pisses everyone off.
But Paul's a shitty host who knows little about football to begin with, so he's gotta fill his show with something.

When I was in college I had a buddy intern with Finebaum while the show was still broadcast out of Birmingham. From what I gathered, Finebaum didn't seem to really care too much for Jim. He (meaning Finebaum) said he made the mistake of giving Jim his personal cell phone number. There were times where the screeners wouldn't let Jim on the air for whatever reason. He would respond by blowing up Finebaum's phone with text messages asking to be let on the air.
