Thank you for joggin my memory. I remember a lot of fans on here ridiculing State for keeping him on. Turned out to be a good decision given how Simmons responded. Who knows, if we had cut him he might likely be doing the same harm to others.

Do you think he would've stayed on the team if he'd just been a 2 or 3 star recruit?

But fans shouldn't act like they've never cheered for players who have done just as much. No one in this thread has insinuated such, but it's been brought up before

It depends. I don't think many LSU fans liked cheering for Jordan Jefferson after he was arrested for stomping on that kid outside a bar. It really depends on the circumstances, but generally speaking, you're right, people are quick to forgive players on their own teams if they are good players.

I don't think he'd have been at state had anyone dropped 180k in his lap....errr father's collection plate.

nope. Mullen would have had a lot more heat from donors if Simmons wasn't a 5*

I saw State fans boo Donte Walker off of Scott Field, literally, basically because he was a reprobate.
Simmons walked a fine line at MSU and there were plenty of people who never wanted him to set foot on campus. It was definitely a very gray situation for me, no black and white answers

Says the Bama fan who probably supportive of signing Jonathan Taylor after Georgia booted him for similar activity

What second chance? He was suspended one game against South Alabama, plead no contest, fined like $300, and had the charge expunged. He got off pretty damn easy IMO. With that said, I would never wish for or be happy to see someone hurt, but there's no need to white knight for the guy.

Because it was a misdemeanor based on the circumstances around it. But don't let facts get in the way of your social justice efforts.

A lot of the top schools stopped recruiting him when it happened.

That would be incorrect. He was recruited hard all the way to signing day. Ole Miss was still after him hard.

If State had dropped him, he would have played at Ole Miss. That's why their comments on this subject are hypocritical.

A 17 year old kid, who was otherwise a good kid, made a horrible lapse in judgement while sticking up for a sibling. He was charged with simple assault, while the other party was charged with fighting and disturbing the peace. So much for that innocent victim narrative.

He didn't duck from it...he's addressed it head on, made the best of it and deserves the right to move on from it. If State had moved on from him like everyone wanted them to, there would've been a long line of schools looking for the chance at "heppin".

It was a weird situation because he wasn't enrolled and on the team yet.
Now Leo Lewis should've been kicked off the team.

Leo chewed up and spit anyone out that came close to him with the ball last year. It was tragic. So tragic that people have rashes from butthurt.

I'm an absolute arse for thinking this but my first thought was, "Glad he's exhausted all his eligibility before this happened"
