Why? Bama lost an important glue guy in Herb but Ellis and Primo can both do a lot of the things he does. Shackelford is back. Quinnerly is back. Gary is an uber promising young big man. Bama is adding a potential lottery pick PG that looks to be a fantastic fit. Alex Tchikou is the #61 overall player from 2021 who didnt play due to an ACL injury. Above all else, Oats' admittedly brief track record of improving players is encouraging. Imo, you can pencil Bama in as a really good defensive team again based on the returning players and the talent coming in. If the offense clicks, Bama will contend for the SEC again

It's funny how differently AU fans see the world from everyone else.
There is no standard outside of Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas, and Duke where winning the conference, the conference tournament, many individual awards, and a Sweet Sixteen appearance is not a successful season.
There's also no one outside of AU that would consider AU a legitimate basketball program because of your lightning in bottle Final Four appearance.

They have nothing else, brother. Their football program is a dumpster fire. Their basketball program is irrelevant. Tough times on the cow pasture.

Amen. They just went 13-14 in year 7 of Bruce Pearl's dynasty, and they just hired WhatsHisName who is yet to get a commitment from a single four star recruit. Good times.

I said the losses were concerning, he was a bit cringy and our transfers/freshman outside of Moody looked like mid majors.
All of which were accurate at the time.

Bama had a very very good season. Its frustrating not getting further in the tournament of course but as an AU fan I'd take that season and celebrate it any day. I don't think you guys are preseason #8 and probably not even top 15, but it might track in that more is known about your roster right now than a lot of other rosters.
I think Bama, Arky, Auburn, UT, and UK all have potential to have top 20 rosters by the time portal season shakes out. I don't really know or care the order they show up in preseason rankings but I think they all have a really good chance at great seasons.

That one seems to be taking into account the possibility of Petty and Herb returning, which seems almost impossible.
