The answer is simple.
No scholarships for athletics based on being fast.
Do not reduce admissions standards for athletes.
Those that still want to play but can't get in find a market like the CFL. They can own their likeness, get paid to train for the NFL and prosper.
Any version of paying players or allowing them to sell their signatures, clothes, etc is fraught with pitfalls that eventually lead to the final corruption of the term "amateur athlete" if that hasn't already happened.

I paid for my college by signing up to go to a few tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He gets to play a children's game, get tons of fanfare and attention, and make millions the second he graduates. frick you Tabor, you entitled, ungrateful piece of shite.

Stfu. As a current college student If the dining halls are closed and you have no snacks and no cash, you're going hungry for a night. It doesn't matter how good of a job his dad does. My Dad makes 250k+ a year but he doesn't believe in handouts because he grew up broke af. I had to work to get extra cash and that's not exactly possible in the moment living miles and miles away while I'm hungry at 11pm. Most banks won't allow you to transfer money over night let alone use the funds that night. That is not just the NCAA. NFL players don't "own" thir likeness, either. The NFLPA has to sanction a game company to use their names/likenesses. Granted the players get a cut, but if the NFLPA (I think the league has to agree, too, but they may only have say on the uniforms, I don't remember) says a game company can use the leagues players names/likenesses for their games the players have no say. (Unless this has changed in recent years....if so, I am unaware of it)

I believe plantations also recruited the best prospective slaves. Wined and dined them for a year before the prospective slave made a choice as to which plantation he'd like to work.

I think his point is that there are inequities in terms of the labor the players put in versus the compensation they receive. He's exaggerating to get attention, but his point is not entirely wrong.

As it is, college football perpetuates a system that takes advantage of young athletes while making millions of dollars for (mostly) independent entities (ADs) that contribute little to nothing to the academic institutions they claim to represent. Meanwhile, the fact that the athletes attend these academic institutions in fact makes a mockery of their admission standards and the effort put in by typical students.
That said, I am obviously a huge fan of CFB and would die a little bit inside if it ever went away. I guess I'm just accepting of the inherent contradictions.

I'm sorry, but there are no other realistic markets. Maybe you can point to a handful of players who went the Canadian route (Akiem Hicks, eg). But the numbers just aren't there to indicate that it is a viable alternative to CFB. In that sense, I believe you are lying to yourself about the existence of alternative markets.
