Not only was I alive, I had enough self-awareness to not chirp in on topics that didn't have a thing to do with my interests.
But I wasn't a comedian either, so

The West Sherrill played in was a completely different animal than today’s West.

You can only beat who you play so credit to Sherrill to winning the West with an 8-5 team.

This reminds me of UT honoring Cut for the Ole Miss game.

Jackie came in and sat beside me at a bar one night. only seat available and turns out he is just a cool dude that likes scotch, cigars, and women. He bought me a cigar. He had some pretty good stories about how recruiting against OM was so tough because they had much easier access to hookers being so close to memphis while all he could get for the players were leftovers from Tuscaloosa.

Something tells me the quality has gone up the last decade or so.

So MSU's only losing in the past counts on this God forsaken board?

Well, I mean, what happens if an asteroid strikes the earth the day before the game? The odds are more favorable for that than Florida winning that game, but they're both long shots.

Yet the team you pull for couldn't even win it back when 8-3 teasms won the West.

Just when I think I've found an LSU guy to be an internet enemy, you go and do something like this

If you westies were not so big on trolling us Easterners all the time ... I'd damn sure be pulling for Jackie to get a win that day. Always liked that guy. He was one of the last truly old school guys coaching when he left the game.

Will never forget our game, the first one played after 9/11 ... historic. But his daughter asked to sing the national anthem that night, still the highest rated Thursday night game ever I believe, and he made it happen and she absolutely knocked it outta the park.

May have been the only night they didn't allow cowbells ... they had metal detectors set up everywhere.

I think it's great they're honoring him for the game. It means they're pretty damn sure MSU is going to win.

I was there. There was a really eerie feeling and some a-hole yelled "F$@K You Bin Laden in the middle of the moment of silence. I understand the feeling but if I were standing next to the guy I would have punched him for doing that.

That was also the beginning of the end of JWS and the start of one of the worst periods of MSU football ever. The game that was skipped and played at the end of the season was against BYU and still stands as the only game I believe the officials had the fix in. I've seen some crap or bad calls but this entire game was officiated so blatantly one-sided it was beyond ridiculous. I was sitting at field level for the most blatant dirty play from one team I have ever seen and the greatest amount of bullshite calls in one game ever. Their conference officials were not going to let us be their first loss there at the end of the season.

The best example I can think of was one of our WRs made a great catch for a crucial first down. He stands up after the catch and signals first down with his arm which immediately earned him a 15-yard penalty for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

BYU is still one of my most hated teams ever. Our season was already in the shitter, so it would not have taken us to a BCS game or big bowl, but it was still crap.

But it was the Mountain West Conferences only shot at a BCS payday. Those refs had instructions, no doubt. Fortunately, karma showed up in a grass skirt the next week and Hawaii beat the taste out of their mouths

State was 6-2 in the SEC, and other 6-2 teams have won the West.

Agreed. Ive said that SEC schools should refuse to play BYU after the crap they pulled that game.

It was a scheduled Week 2 game and we had beaten them badly in Provo the year before. It was moved to the first week in December because of 9/11, and BYU came in 11-0. State was 3-7 so not much to play for, but they played their best game of the season and got royally screwed by the MWC officials.

I echo the sentiments - other than a high school game in the middle of the Mississippi Delta a couple years ago, its the only game I have ever witnessed where I believe a full fix was in. BYU won on a last second FG, 41-38.

State had 127 yards in penalties and 105 of them were issued on plays where MSU gained 8 or more yards or scored.

6-2 and went 4-1 against West teams, and the only West loss was to the last place team. It was a strange year. Lost a non conference game to Oklahoma State and then lost the bowl game to Texas to end up 8-5.

Haha I'm just here for the party, Dog!

In all HONESTY, MSU is my second team in the SEC, but I was raised up in the Skip Bertman era of Starvegas jokes, and really can't help myself. Could be Tourette's, I'm getting it checked soon.
