@StatTiger: During the 2013 season FBS offenses avg 71.9 snaps per game. During the 2000 season, it was 70.9. Gee...we need to slow these offenses down.
Not much of a difference there... Discuss my melt.

I would like to see just the SEC snaps per game.

Where did Mr. SEC get these numbers from?

quote:

Last season, Freeze’s Ole Miss squad ran an average of 78.3 offensive plays per game. Kentucky ran just 64.5 offensive snaps per game. Those were the polar opposites in the SEC last season. Spreading those averages over the span of a 12-game season, UM would run 165.6 more offensive plays than UK. That’s the equivalent of Rebel athletes playing about two-and-a-half extra games over the course of a season.

Not sure, but I would venture to guess that Kentucky's play count is deflated due to being terrible on offense... A lot of 3 and outs can contribute to a low play count, like bad pitches contribute to a high pitch count in baseball.

It's not the snaps per game. Compare average seconds between snaps.

Oregon is in the 30s in snaps per game, because they score so quickly. But yeah, melt on. From RE to this, it's been a great week.

What? Their whole argument is based around play safety due to the increased play count per game. Quicker plays equate to more plays.

Don't bring facts around here! HUNH is killing kids left and right on the field! We don't see them dragging the bodies off the field because the offenses are already snapping the ball, and the camera men don't have time to show us the behind the scenes carnage!

Here's my best attempt (ran out of time) to chart the SEC snaps per game. I had to skip a few years in the interest of time. Might finish it out later. I see no clear trend. Mizzou, Ole Miss and A&M skew the numbers the last two years but otherwise the SEC averages around 67 to 70 snaps per game pretty much every year.

Snaps per game isn't indicative of substitutions. HUNH makes it where the defense can't sub without the threat of illegal substitution, that doesn't mean the offense has to snap it as fast as possible.
