Here's the evidence that he did NOT simulate a substitution.
While the network was busy with sideline shots of Arbuckle and the Auburn band, the offense was going uptempo to catch the defense out of position.
What do offenses going uptempo NOT do? SUBSTITUTE e.g. there was no intent to simulate anything.

I dont care what yall think. Every fanbase agonizes over still shot photos of a missed holding call. Auburn had plenty missed and theyre not even near the most egregious by a landslide. Overturned TDs, OU illegitimate TD, multiple DPI missed and so on. The only thing the refs did right was call blatant pick plays by the Oklahoma offense and wouldn't it be ironic to learn Venables' team once earned a championship thanks to several uncalled pick plays.

Dude they had the lead and every opportunity to win the game. They are the only ones to blame. That one play was early in the game. It didn’t affect the outcome and there’s no guarantee Oklahoma doesn’t score on that drive even with a penalty. It’s over. frick them
